    Saying "I'm an IT manager" doesn't mean that anyone should listen to my opinion unless I work for them. Same with an engineer.

    He isn't signing off on anything. He's complaining, offering his thoughts on an alternative, and saying "I'm am engineer" to lend his letter more weoght.

    If anyone says "right. Just got a letter from a ransom who says He's an engineer, let's change everything without any further investigation" then THEY should be sued.

    Good grief people.

    It is not a moral obligation.

    It is only a necessary evil....that should not be overly burdensome.

    I actually pay my fair share of taxes, and happily. I do not seek out every possible loophole and try to game the system. But then again I realise my taxes go to (what Americans would call) social security that pays money to the poor, elderly and those unable to work due to health, my taxes go to pay medical bills for those poorer than me. My taxes also go to public schools, roads, fire fighters and policemen.

    I am more than happy to pay more than people who are poorer than me and do not look to game the system because I can afford to pay more without unduly burdening my finances.

    Democrats didn't insist on playing by the rules. They could have made this change and made executive nominees partisan. But they didn't have control of the house to allow them to nominate a judge even if they had changed the rules.

    It's a sad day when the companies like Twitter are fighting for the US Constitution. Any time a government employee attempts to break the constitution they should be charged with treason and dealt with accordingly. Anytime Congress or the President break it, it should be considered an act of war and dealt with accordingly.

    Time has proven again and again that the only thing the American government listens to is might. It's time to water the tree of Liberty.

    Then why don't we go right ahead and give renewable energy the same amount in subsidied that coal and big oil have gotten for the last umpteen years and let them build their infrastructure before finally pulling them off the US government's teat.

    After all, fair's fair. Right? We're all about capitalism and letting companies stand on their own two feet.

    Remember in the 60s or 70s when Global Cooling was a concern? Or how in the 80s and 90s we were going to have major cities around the globe "within the next 30 years".

    I'm quite doubtful that the clathrate gun is going to suddenly destroy the world in 30 years time. And I actually believe in global warming. What hope do you have for getting through to climate denialists?

    Wasn't that Clinton's strategy against the deplorables? Those deplorables sure are good at striking back when insulted too much. Might want to be careful there or you might get a couple of decades of climate deniers in the whitehouse.

  17. The acceptable alternative to smart light bulbs, thermostats and garage door openers would be "dumb" light bulbs, thermostats and garage door openers. These do in fact exist and have done so for decades.

    How much wealth does the 1% have compared to the rest of America? Increase their taxes and you'll suddenly have a whole lot of money that can go around. Of course, these wealthy would need to honestly declare their actual income. Instead of hiding it overseas and exploiting loopholes in the tax code. Loopholes that other 1%ers put in there for the benefit of the wealthy.

    How many well adjusted healthy adults do you know who would willingly live at barely above poverty levels and choose (rather than be forced) to not work or perform charity work? I certainly don't know any HEALTHY such individuals. I don't see any reason to not support those so unhealthy that they don't have the drive to work (ideally while they undergo treatment for whatever underlying condition is causing them to CHOOSE to live in such a way). But then again, I don't see universal health care as something to be destroyed.
