Hey dictionary head! How come NOBODY on this newsgroup EVER gets all antsy about the number of articles or posts about "Identity Theft"
Because it's usually associated with - indeed, a means to - actual theft. (Whereas copyright infringers are often called thieves when no actual theft takes place, no matter what/whom the subject.)
This place is falling apart - moderation in the hands of retards!
Mod this down so that it's got no chance of being seen (if any other meta-moderators actually look at context) if you like - at least you'll be using up your points on something valid (this is off-topic) instead of awarding them to people who don't RTFA, then become moderators and perpetuate the decline...
People in the know have all but given up on print journalism nowadays. The real investigative journalism etc etc is going on in weblogs.
Thanks, anonymous poster - you're obviously 'in the know'. I'd completely given up on Slashdot, and only come here on a rainy morning for a cheap laugh, but now I've seen the light!
Until then, they will send paid flamers like you to say how naughty truth tellers like me are.
You're just proving my point - only here would you read this deluded nonsense. I am an academic researcher, funded by the European Union (and you know their healthy scepticism regarding Microsoft).
I should declare an interest, though - the last conference but one where I presented was sponsored by Microsoft Research (as well as Cisco). Do I have a mark on my forehead? Am I damned? Can you show me the way?...
Lesson for MS to learn: FUD doesn't effect [sic] a community of a single mind and purpose [!!!].
C# will not replace Java. It is a wonderful Java knock-off with a great IDE (Visual Studio), but it is not a Java killer.
End of [flame]
Your comments about the 'point' of this website are a self-fulfilling prophecy. Realists (yes, there are people who are neither brainwashed by Microsoft, nor the supposed crypto-Anarchist 'resistance' you seem to think you represent) just cannot be bothered anymore.
Inaccurate article, based on no understanding, included by editors because it uses the word Microsoft... cue lots of worthless 'debate', joking about Microsoft OSS's perceived lack of security.
How's the advertising revenue today on this sinking ship?
The editors sole job here is to judge which submissions, usually by mentioning Microsoft and/or OSS, will incite 'debate' - i.e. receive a lot of posts, supporting advertising revenue.
1) some other news site has a badly written story
2) some idiot with no background knowledge does no research, just scans the article and pops together a couple of sentences and submits
3) editors notice the magic 'M$ vs OSS' theme and the potential for 'debate'
4) sheep go over the same old arguments, mostly with no understanding of the software in question
5)...
5) no profit... in reading this rubbish!
When it's sat up on blocks, unable to run, and people are fighting wars (or, rather, many more of them) based on the fossil fuels you squandered, you'll look so coooooool!
Surely not... electric vehicles with batteries recharged via the existing grid are in keeping with this. I might even be persuaded that owning a car is something I'd like to do when such a thing is more practical - for now I'm happy with my bicycle and the train (sadly diesel, not electric, as in previous places I've lived).
Adaptive Path, I believe. Agreed, it's not a bad name, but it still needs a link... (this article is of the usual unhelpful Slashdot variety)
*Knockknockknock* Better go answer the door!

Oh, you definitely know? Well, I'll take your word for it, stranger on the Internet... no need to point to the relevant section of the standard!

Slashdot is over, you're welcome to it...

Dear Slashdot readers,
Please argue amongst yourselves based on this 'article', which is completely free of any news and/or anything that matters...

Terrible summary of a meaningless article
What?
This is insightful?!? (Currently rated Score 5, Insightful)
This is my last post on Slashdot. I'm not some angry loser - I leave with excellent karma and having frequently moderated.
All the same, moderation and meta-moderation have just stopped working here, and the editing is nil.
What a waste of time...
Because:
1) You can copy text word for word, and/then
2) You're one level of indirection from being an outright advert!
Might take bravery, but it doesn't take much intelligence to quote the first two paragraphs of a story from The Register word for word!
Uh, dorky review, dude. You'd be able to write better -- in the second person or otherwise -- if you followed your own advice.
