Well, still various distros on various platforms would benefit if it is compiled from non-GPL obfuscated source, simply because it works out of the box, after you install distro. I guess that non-GPL nature would mean it cannot be part of linux kernel.

  3. The Driver Solution: Obfuscated C Source on Open Graphics Project Looking For Funding · · Score: 1

Dear nVidia, here is my little idea for getting nVidia Graphics working on Linux: Release drivers in obfuscated C source! I mean, you can write program to merge all .c and .h files to one huge file, rename all vars and functions to _a00001 (002...) and reorder them (functions and vars) in random way with each new release. In that case, user will get less info from driver sources then what you get from disassembled binary code. Still, such driver can be integrated in kernel, all platforms working, kernel can report crash in specific line of driver code (which can be translated to real source code at nVidia). All good stuff. Now, I hope someone at nVidia read this.

Actually, too expensive. When building cluster of stock PCs it should not be more then $500/PC. And you get AMD64, not Transmeta CPUs (double performance). That being said, kudos to Orion for shrinking whole cluster to big-tower case. Drawback is that it's not so easy to replace dead CPUs (yes, I know it *is* possible).

Forgret about licence, if it hits mass market this thing will be run by ipod-like interface, where you will choose destination from hiererchical tree or bookmarks. Then you will be guided by central computer. Even 5yo kids will be allowed to use this. The only problem is: engine reliability. If your engine(s) breaks, you can kill people on the ground. With millions of flying cars upthere, it seems impossible to avoid that (at least current airplane makers didn't find way yet to avoid engine faults and they use heavy amount of service before each flight). Living in big city would be like living in 1942 London. I think that even neighbours of this single inventor are not safe at all.

I think Apple will add integrated PS3 as (optional?) add-on in Mac computers for $200. It will use computer's blue-ray and display only, otherwise it will be independant from the rest of Mac. MS's only remaining stronghold (games) will be lost, which opens door for Apple to real volume desktop market. Sony will OTOH fill the planet with PS3 games (which is what metters to them). I expect thay will make a deal to have iPod support in stand-alone PS3.

Sorry for Off Topic, but as opose to what most people here thinks, I am sure that *too weak* politics towards NK will lead to nuke-disaster in either South Korea, Japan or even USA west-coast. As opose to Saddam, Kim Chong Il is *real* asshole (tm) that is able to push red button anytime he don't get his pills. Sooner we act, less catastrophy. May I remind you that Tepodong-3 nuclear missiles will probably be able to reach USA, while ver.2 is tested to reach all of Japan. Unfortunatelly for South Korea and Japan, Bush is focused on "war on terror", attacing random countries, while *real* asshole (tm) is silently getting his agenda done. As he learned from Milosevic, when it gets politically too hot it is enough to say "OK, we are back to talks again!" and you have another 2 years to do whatever you like. Europe is also no help here, becouse it is divided to 25 different opinions.
