Another (less literal, more poetically-liscensed) translation might be: "Any (good) thing can be abused." It does have pertinance to the law, in that the government shouldn't be (for instance) banning aspririn because one person overdosed and bled to death.

Indeed, English itself owes much of its structure to Anglo Saxon languages in existence at the time of the Norman invasion of the 11th century. While only a small percentage of Anglo Saxon words remained the lexicon, the syntax of the language stayed. It's fascinating to study.

Why not just genetically engineer yourself to absorb sunlight? That would also solve the skin cancer problem, for sure! There's also a species of sea creature that is capable of stripping the chloroplasts from the plants it eats and migrating them to the skin in order to produce energy. Anyone remember what it's called?

My grandmother used to have a rooster that would attack anyone he didn't know. I can recall several severe beatings, the last of which ended with some pretty good fried chicken. ;)

Surprisingly enough, dogs can breed without our help. The issue at hand is birth control, and all those people out there who think the dog will notice a massive change in quality of life once s/he is sterilized. Bottom line: If you want the responsibility of a pet, you ought to get it spayed or neutered.

  9. Re:PTO on Employees Rights in an Emergency? · · Score: 1

It works differently in different place. At the hospital I work for, PTO is accrued in lieu of vacation or sick time at the rate of a little less than 8 hours per 2-week payperiod. It can be used as replacement for time the employee has chosen to take off, such as for a 2-hour dentist appointment or a day or week of vacation. It can also be used as sick time, or donated to other employees in need (such as in the case of catastrophic illness). However, it also counts as our holiday pay. For example, if we choose to take Christmas off, we can either choose to take PTO, or not. It's rather flexible, but sometimes I think it's a ripoff.
