Although TNG was shot on film, it was only ever edited on videotape so even if the original film existed (which it doesn't) they would have to re-edit the episodes from scratch - which wouldn't be economically viable.
If you think for even a second that Google is less interested in making money than Microsoft you have a severe case of "MS blinkers". It's a given on Slashdot that nobody likes MS and Google can do no wrong but there is no fundamental difference between them - they exist to make money. The difference is only in the perception.
"Geeko";-) Now there's an apt slip if ever I saw one! (BTW, it's Gecko, as in the small lizard...) (and yes I use Firefox so I'm not knocking Gecko before anyone gets all precious...)
It's actually a problem with the Gecko render engine and has been fixed for ages - unfortunately Firefox is currently using an old version of Gecko. Firefox 1.1 (allegedly out in March 05....) will fix this (or you can try a nightly build now if you're brave!;-)
Disney are developing Toy Story 3 and Monsters Inc 2 themselves - as part of the original deal Disney own the rights to all sequels to Pixar films...
If they follow the usual Disney sequel standard (Mulan II, Lion King 2, and 3, Cinderella II etc.) expect them to be a poor imitation of the originals...
Note that the Beta is free but the final product won't be:
We have not announced pricing and licensing and will not do so until next calendar year. For the time being, we can tell you that the Express Editions will be low-cost and will continue to be easy to acquire.
So it will depend on the MS definition of "low-cost".
I can't see any distribution limits like the old student editions that cannot be used to create commercial (or even free) software - are they hiding in there somewhere?
If you've got tons of viruses being introduced into the wild, it's probably coming from an anti-virus company
Absolutely 100% untrue. I used to work as a developer for Dr Solomon's (before they were taken over by McAffe and made us all redundant!) and that was a charge levelled at us regularly. The guys in the virus lab had plenty of work dealing with new viruses without doing something as daft as writing them.
It would be unethical and outright stupid - anti-virus companies live on trust: break the trust and your customers go elsewhere.
Can't comment on Shrek 2 (it's not out in the UK until the 2nd of July) but based on the opening and
Box Office Guru predictions it's already well on it's way to catching Nemo (not that I want it to - the original Shrek was too forced for me and I expect the sequel is all the same gags in a different order!)
The Lion King has been toppled by Finding Nemo as the highest grossing animation ever
I suspect this record is likely to be broken by Shrek 2, given it's record breaking opening weekend. The Incredibles (Pixar's next) is unlikely to match Nemo or Shrek (no cute animals, slightly more "adult" target market) - though I'm really looking forward to it (and I've got to wait until 2005 cos Pixar always delay thier releaes in the UK until February after the US release) Aaaarggghh!
Pixar was never "part" of Disney - they simply had a distribution deal with them. Thre are still two films left under that deal (The Incredibles and next years Cars). Disney may yet capitulate to Pixar's demands and distribute their future work - Pixar haven't signed with anyone else and the Disney may decide a smaller part of the big pie ism still worth it.
Clippy: (Interrupting himself) "It looks like you meant 'you're', not 'your'. Please learn to spell..." ;-)
Glad to be of service...
'What's so unpleasant about being drunk?'
'You ask a glass of water.'
All the Acid2-related work is going on in Gecko 1.9 which will probably form the basis of Firefox 2.0.
h tml
Nope - Firefox 2.0 is based on Gecko 1.8.1 - 1.9 isn't going to be ready for at least a year and will be used in Firefox 3.0 (probably..).
See the DRAFT Gecko 1.9 Roadmap - http://www.mozilla.org/roadmap/gecko-1.9-roadmap.
Quoting: "There are several major areas of development for Gecko 1.9, intended to serve both the applications built on top of it (chiefly Firefox 3)"

Is it time for Toy Story 3 yet?

The whole point is to get people writing .NET (i.e. WinForms) based applications. MFC is dead and burried as far as MS is concerned.
For those of us not privy to this grudge match - what on earth is the difference between one huge University/commercial empire and the other?
