  1. Re:Possible precedent against "corporate immunity" on Slashback: Fairness, Radioactivity, Recovery · · Score: 1

The HP/Compaq story seems to be implying that they are actually taking action against individual employees of the corporation who were responsible for doing such-and-such, as opposed to HP/Compaq itself.

This could set a GREAT precedent!...

I disagree. The Canadian governement sued HP over a breach of contract. HP took responsability and paid. No precedent here.

Then HP made an inquiry into what happened and found out that some of its own employees were responsible of fraud against themselve and their customers. They are looking into suing theirs employees for fraud, breach of contract ( employment contrats ) and misrepresentation. Once again, nothing is precedent.

Finally, they are looking for breach of contract with their subcontractors who failed to deliver. Still no precedent.

What does create a precedent is the fact that subcontracting ended up costing them a lot more money than they would have saved using it. It may make several corporation re-evaluate subcontrating. This is good for you and me.

POLITICAL PROMISE -- We will LOWER TAXES by 2% in the next 5 years...

    Hmm... Ho, just forget it.

  3. The StarWars story line is ever simple, but... on Can Star Wars Episode III Be Saved? · · Score: 1

... Ep I, II are missing one important thing that made the success of ep IV V VI: Hans Solo. The "go save the princess" story line would have been almost boring but for the special effetcs and Hans Solo. There is no equivalent character in the ep I and II.

Plus there are some really questionnable moves made by the good guys. Example: In clone wars when the jeudis actually jump into the arena to help the heros. I couldn't help thinking "Can a light saber stop a nuke? Ho! Wait. The death star hasn't been built yet.".

I don't see how they can change track for ep III since it's kind of late to introduce a new primary charater.

  4. Sound strategy? on Microsoft's Real Plan For XNA Gaming Domination? · · Score: 2, Funny

I'm not so sure. The game industry is having trouble releasing new titles. Now it is more or less accepted by industry that the platforms can do just about anything you need them to do. More fancy graphics, more FPS, more... Whatever, is no longer the issue execpt in them of lead time. It's the game content that matters because people are no longer impressed by incomplete games. As far as i am concerned, if M$ can deliver good game, why not? Their attempt to "control" the gaming market through a techological gimmik is funny at best and shouldn't be something to worry about.

  5. The problem already has solutions... on Out of Gas · · Score: 1

... but it is against car manufacturer's interests to implement them. Think about it: a car that would switch between electric and compressed air during trafic jam. Use gas when needed and switch to diesel when the cruise control is enabled on highways. As a bonus it could run on hydrogen and rechardge its batteries with a solar panel. All the parts already exist: The engine itself: qtusa.promci.qc.ca The electric engine: www.tech-m4.com ( They will be slashdotted... Evil Smile... ) Those are by no means the only solutions brought to this problem. So here is a proposal: Build high end police cars using these or similar techologies. Small volume, governement could take an interrest in participating. The goal is to make a car that is the same price, which is at least as good as any other police car. Prove that these cars are good first, you can't have a better field test, then downgrade them to consumer level prices. What do you think?
