Nothing stopping them CRT HDTV from being made. I have one in my house. It is a bit tough to make a direct-view CRT larger than 34 inches diag, which is one reason why you see a lot of LCDs and Plasmas at the bigger sizes.

A lot of the dearth of HDTV CRT choices has to do (IMHO) with marketing. Plasma is newer so it MUST be better, right? And bigger is ALWAYS better, right?
Frankly, I'm much happier with the picture quality on my HD CRT than the 50 inch HD LCD at a friend purchased at about the same time.

This is not at all what Rosetta is for. Rosetta is there to allow one to run legacy ppc code on intel. When one is writing new code -- using Code Warrior, xCode, or whatever -- one uses that tool to compile code that is native to the target machine(s). No self-respecting developer would compile a Mac app that would run only with the help of an emulator.

Some universities are making progress, but many are totally clueless. Reasons for lax security range from historical perceived lack of need (the small group of people with access were trusted) to bugetary (part time hourly student employees in charge of managing systems full of sensitive data) to political (heavyweights at the univsertity want things done fast, cheap and easy to use -- and we all know "fast, cheap, good pick any two.")

At some point, you have to start caring about wattage of processor (and computer as a whole.) Everyone pretty much takes for granted that high wattage in a laptop is bad (thigh burns, dead batteries) But desktop power draw is largely ignored. This can be a problem when you put new, power-hungry machines in a lab that was designed for machines of yore. You end up tripping breakers when your new machines draw twice or thrice the wattage that your old machines did -- even after replacing the old CRT displays with new LCDs. Power useage seems to be more or less following Moore's law of late. If this continues, we'll all be re-wiring our houses to run that 30A circuit to our desks.

$499 will never buy you the "latest tech." And it would come with a dedicated graphics card that doesn't share system RAM. If you really want to get a Dell comparable to a dual G5 tower, you need to look into the Precision Workstation line. And I think you will find that you will spend more $$ up front for a Dual processor intel box in that case.
