That test as akin to asking someone to type with a non-QWERTY style keyboard.
I do that on a daily basis. My main computer is qwerty and my portable is azerty. At work my main is qwerty and my secondary is azerty. Now it is not so bad. I used to have a French azerty keyboard, which is just a bit different then a Belgian one. Also I have worked with a German keyboard, which is different as well.
And you are right, no matter how many different keyboards I use, Shakespear it ain't (Or Voltair, Goete,...)
I have often heard this. Does anybody has numbers on this, or just a gut feeling that things went wrong when you rebooted and the reason for a reboot was because the system was already giving problems.
I have no pictures of my great-grand parents, yet somehow I am able to exist without the knowledge of how they looked. People have lived for thousands of generations without images of their parents or even them selves and many still do so today.
I am sure that my kids and grandchildren will be able to live without any images of me.
Conjecture #2) He simply reported the problem and the typical knee-jerk reaction ensues.
If this is the case, let him pay off his transgression by working with the people on the IT Team so he can be mentored and more easily monitored. Mentoring is the key element to his natural progression toward becoming a productive citizen.
Why should he be mentored? Let the people at IT be mentored. Let the kneejerkers be mentored.
He does not need to be monitored or mentored if this is the case. He needs to receive a medal and be an example for everybody to do the right thing.
The person who reports the crime is often the first suspect or person of interest.
I was once questioned by police because I replied in a internet (anti)abuse usenet group because I was the first to reply about a site on kiddiporn and did not remove the URL.
The police thought as you. The fact that I informed the provider who were told not to take the site down, even though the guilty person was already known or the fact that I informed the police who told me at the investigation that their mail did not work. Also the fact that they called the company and told them that I was wanted because of spreading child porn (luckily my employer understood when I showed him what I had done and that I was actually trying to take it offline)
The police did not question any of my actions to prevent it. The only question they had was why was I in that newsgroup in the first place. Well, I am not anymore and I have never ever seen anything even remotely illegal. If it is online, it must be legal, otherwise the smart police people would take it away.
This extends to life in the real world as well. I will not call the police for any reason any more.
I personally do not care why he was there. He should not have access to that data. Not by accident and not on purpose and certainly not undetected. If I am not allowed to take a cookie, do not put the cookie jar open on the table.
In many places leaving a car unlocked is forbidden by law and could be punished. The same should apply by easy accessible data.
First it was "MY children" and in the end it became "OUR children". You are on/., so I assume you understand what it means to not solve a social problem with a technical solution.
There is no way to completely protect your children and if that would be possible, the harm done would be much greater. You are a parent. It is not your job to just protect them. It is your job to raise them. This means preparing them to become adults.
So sit down with them. If they are too young in your eyes, sit next to them when they are on the net. When they get older, explain them what is good and what is bad. I was thought NEVER to take candy of anybody. I did not even take candy from the kindergarten teacher.
As of the difference between MY and OUR, please let it be no misunderstanding that our values are probably completely different, so things I disagree with, you will agree and the other way around. Because of that reason alone there is no general solution possible. I, the parent need to step up and decide on how to deal with this, not a group or let alone a government.
Then send a mail to confirm what was said. I do this all the time with other things. First I request e.g. a change in procedure. I get no reply. Then after several mails, I send then the proposal. Still no reply.
Then I send a mail stating that unless they tell me otherwise, procedure XYZ will be in effect starting Monday. I have had people very upset and the yelled at by THEIR manager that they did not read their mails and now they should stop whining and deal with it.:-D
So even if they do say nothing, you can still state your intentions and to why you are doing it. e.g. "Hello, just to inform you that I will be working on breaking and entering http://slashdot.org/ next Wednesday as you requested. Time it will take is probably 60 seconds. I will keep you updated if I succeed in stealing the content as you asked me to do." OK, perhaps a little less obvious, but still.
It works even better by people who never reply. (It is also the reason why I do not mind being the person making the minutes from a meeting. I get to decide what was important and what not)
Email is indeed the best option to cover yourself. See who you can include as CC without making it too obvious that this is just to cover yourself.
When he mails the response to go ahead, mail him and all others a reply (in case he did not do a reply-to-all) to confirm that you are going ahead as HE asked you to do.
If you feel seriously bad, ask a friend to mail said company to pay attention to IP addresses of the range W.X.Y.Z. If you told in your first email to your boss that they might block the whole company, let them send the email the day after you are finished with the project. Do not send the mail yourself.
Then you can even send a "na na na, told you so" kind of mail once you are blocked. This will make them think twice about doing it a second time AND your feedback will be higher valued. Management is generally not impressed if they waste money on a protect where it was said that it would blow up in their face. Obviously only if there are more people involved besides your boss.
OS boot. The actual core OS is again something that, once stable, changes very little
Would it not be possible to have a sig for it? MD5SUM what could have been changed. Then MD5SUM all the MD5SUMS.
No changes? Go ahead and skip all the tests and trials and what not Change? Check the original MD5SUMS and do the test on things that changed there. If that is not an option. Do the first MD5SUM check and if that fails, do a complete new check.
Add a new module or hardware? MD5SUM changes, so the check is done.
Some extra things you can do on top of most other things 1) http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm will block out many things without even trying to fetch them. 2) Use privoxy or junkbuster 3) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1672 ImgLikeOpera This extension is very useful for non broadband users 4) If you have more then 1 PC, install a proxy server. Or perhaps using your providers proxy server won't count for as much (a long shot, but worth ti check out) 5) Use a webinterface for your mail without too many adds, like Gmail. 6) Read/. with the "Low Bandwith", simple design and such set 7) Use Lynx, links or w3m to browse most sites and only use firefox for those that actually need it.
Do use all of the things, not just one or two. Only when they conflict yiu need to choose.
And like a Real American, you sit at home and watch it happen on Fox instead of actualy doing something.
At least that is how it looks from the outside. I am sure you can tell me what great changes have been done to right all the wrongs. Not attempts, real changes.
Oh please. I'll acknowledge that you have the right to own guns for self protection and for hunting.
Wikipedia link The Second Amendment, as passed by the House and Senate, reads: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
The original and copies distributed to the states, and then ratified by them, had different capitalization and punctuation: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
I read nothing about hunting. What I see that there must be a militia that must be allowed to be armed. Reading on the history of the law, you notice this is about soldiers and defence. Nothing about hunting at all.
Doesn't change anything obviously, because everybody will say they need it for self-defence.
Seriously, why is this news? They buy a plane that is available to the public if enough money is exchanged. Even the summary talks about a fleet implying it is not even the first plane they own. So it is not news that they bought a plane, because they have some already. It is not news that they have a lot of money. It is not news one of the big shots has a pilot license. It is not even news for being the first to have such a plane.
It's not news. If anything it's gossip. About as interesting as knowing Tara Reid was drunk again. News? That is not news and it doesn't matter.
If most user don't use 50 gigs, then limit it to 50 gigs.
Most users don't use 500 Peta Bytes, so let's put the limit there. Seriously. If they would say that most users do not use 50 gigs, then you can be sure that it is 50%+1 person. That would mean they would be able to screw over 50%-1.
That is security through obscurity. I could even argue that it has become less secure. Now people will look at green light that will show up and when that does happen then it must be OK. People tend to believe the machien more then they do themselves. This because they do not have to take the resposability, but can blame somebody (or in this case something) else. A simple case of "Gee, I can not give you another seat, because the computer tells me the plane is full" even though there are only 3 people on the plane.
I do have made a pouch for my RFID passport. I took some tinfoil and put somer duct tape on one side a bit more then souble the size of my passport in length. Doublefolded it and put duct tape on the outside as well. Now it is like an envelope. Layer of duct tape, layer of tinfoil and again a layer of duct tape.
I was once asked why I did this. I told them it was because I once had problems with a password becoming wet and unreadable, so this is to prevent that. If they would have asked about the tinfoil in the middle, I would have explained that that was because it is easier to work with that way.
The real reason is because it was fun to do and I had time, tinfoil and duct tape to spare. The fact this IS a good protection against damaging your passport is just a nice plus.
I do that on a daily basis. My main computer is qwerty and my portable is azerty. At work my main is qwerty and my secondary is azerty.

About stealing the software: you can steal all my software. In fact I stole it as well from websites like http://software.opensuse.org/
bankrupt people have just given all of their money to the RIAA. They have given more then they would have done otherwise.
I have no pictures of my great-grand parents, yet somehow I am able to exist without the knowledge of how they looked. People have lived for thousands of generations without images of their parents or even them selves and many still do so today.

It is a nice-to-have not a must-have
This is one of the 23% of the statistics that are not made up I suppose.

It is also easier for me to verify if you voted for the party I paid you to vote for.

So it was calculated in Metric dollars?
You guessed wrong. Makes the rest of you calculation a bit wrong as well.
Good hat there are no states where you can only vote per mail and thus make this possible.
I will sit next to you so verify wether you are informed in the right way to make the right vote or not. That or you can sell your vote.
