Interesting, never heard of algae being used before.
Where I'm from it's all made from Rapeseed Oil, which combines the advantages of being extremely inefficient with its hayfever aggravating properties to make it the most perfect source of oil. Not.
In the context of Rapeseed (and other ground-based sources of biodiesel), the numbers really don't add up. However, as you've described, algae could well be the solution to our hydrocarbon-based problems.
Biodiesel's not a viable alternative to fossil fuels. We can't grow enough to both feed and fuel or society.
Cutting power usage, as you suggested by driving European-style cars (which, I'll add, are also way easier to drive/park than stereotypical US pickup with an automatic gearbox) and make effecient use of our remaining fossil fuel would cover our lifetimes. By then we'd have hopefully worked out how to generate solar energy effectively.
Yeah, the keyboards do suck on small devices. I've tried loads of things - Palm III, Zodiac II, HTC Pocket PC (the iPaq style device) but honestly nothing beats task-specific devices.
It's really only battery life and charging capabilities which let mobile tech down now..
If the gatekeepers are the same people who hold power in the country, there's kinda a big conflict of interest going on.
Much better to have a competitive market-based model (i.e. competition regulated by government to ensure there actually is competition) than to have the politicos in charge. Especially given the track record of Australian politicos..
If you compare Dell's standard prices, then you may well find Apple hardware at a similar price.
However, you're ignoring the fact the Dell regularly have fantastic offers. When I bought my current laptop, the Dell standard price was £500. However, I paid £350 thanks to their special offers.
I'd like a Macbook (assuming I can install XP on one) as they're pretty machines which appear to have a better resale value than Dells..
As you noted, I am well aware of the history of the games.
However, from the US perspective it *IS* a new game. You guys never played soccer at a significant level until the 70s. So from where the average American stands it is a new sport.
Though, to be completely honest, the games are hardly comparable. Soccer is all about skill and flair, about brilliant individual players. American football is all about organisation, the coach has more effect than the players do (in comparison to soccer).
Erm, the record companys were caught price fixing. That forced a minor drop in CD prices when compared to inflation.
However, it's not as big as you suggest. Ten years ago CDs cost 12GBP, now they cost 16GBP. The exceptions are the supermarkets, who sell the top-10 albums for about 10GBP as a loss-leader.
You can probably replace the "european" with "british" in my first post, then:)
Seems strange for rightwing parties to increase the tax burdon, usually the socialists like to have things like a strong benefits system, which they pay for via generally stepped taxation (those who can afford to pay more do pay more).
It all gets messy though, in the UK the current Labour party claim to be socialist but then act in many ways as the conservatives would have....
European conservatives generally cut taxes and also government spending compared to the left-sided parties. They also tend to look after business over their own citizens (though I fear that's a cross party issue).
Maybe the warranty charge comes this year, so they can declare the profit next?

With the state of US education, I think that the first one might be a bit too difficult
In the summer there are so many (usually drunk) British tourists there it probably counts are part of the Empire..
So you can probably tell that I'm a firstborn, otherwise I'd be 'doing' something interesting instead of posting on /.
The first page was the complaint, the remaining 46 pages contained the search history and complete index of every file on the writer's harddrive.

Almost.
It's a Mac running VMWare Fusion http://www.vmware.com/beta/fusion/features.html.

..who read that as 24hrs of Blue Screen of Death testing? :(
It's a phone, as in something you call with.
For email, you'd be wanting a portable computer with some form of wireless connectivity %-)
Is that really such a good idea?

GAMES.
That's the only reason, anything else can be achieved under vmware.

Excellent post.
..the calls to your operation in India...
Be careful with using DVDs for backup, they don't last that long. Personally I'm now sticking to top quality DVD+Rs as they seem to last the longest.
Tape also isn't made for long term storage.
Hope you offsite anything you can't loose, photos are irreplacable so it'd be suck to loose them..
D'oh.
For those not in the know, it's an excellent linux-based media center:

Perfect compliment to cheap modded Xbox 1s.
TV control MAX!

> NFL introducing Football 2.0
From the US perspective, 'they' already have introduced a vastly improved game. You call it 'Soccer'.

> NOTHING is 512 bytes anymore.
Shortcuts can easily be 512 bytes long.
For example I've got a shortcut to a file on C:\, which is 391 bytes actual size, 4096 bytes on the disk.
