Hmm and all this time I thought we actually were a Republic.. The pledge of allegiance even says so (note the to the republic part):
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
NIST 800-88, Read it.. Love it!
Modern hard drives have the command for data destruction built in the form of Secure Erase (http://cmrr.ucsd.edu/people/Hughes/SecureErase.shtml) Block writing went out with the '90s and unless you are using a drive that is that old block writes are nothing more then a waste of time. Heck the old DoD 5220.22M even calls on the NIST standard these days. Read up on it!
As Linux takes over in the back rooms, the number of staff required to maintain the systems, reduces. This trend has been ongoing for years. Now that Linux is moving onto desktops and laptops, the trend is bound to accelerate. Microsoft types are doomed and need to upgrade their burger flipping skills.
Yeah I'm sure those end users that can't figure out the difference between a left and right click will find linux easier to use. I'm not too worried about being out of a job because of linux, in fact it just gives me something else to maintain.
Yes, those are silly ideas, and I suppose there must be someone in the world who believes them. They're hardly common, though, so I'm not sure why you chose to bring them up.
Touché. I was nice having a meaningful and polite thread talk with you. I have a feeling we both see things the same way but I am having trouble putting my thoughts to text on the matter.
Indeed the GPL author can do what they will. If they want to give it away more power to them. I agree with open source in general since as long as they are the creators it is theirs to give away. I am in disagreement with the idea that seems to be around that if you make a closed source product on an open source platform you are evil or that your code is somehow now not yours because you chose to make it run in a *nix environment.
Freedom is also not having someone tell you that you have to give away the code to your life's work because they want to use it. Not publishing code "open source" is nothing even remotely close to slavery. Man is free to do as he pleases as long as he does not infringe on another mans ability to do as they please or affect others property. Your property is you and you can do as you wish with it. If you do not want someone else to steal it then so be it. If you want people to use it as a tool but you still want the credit that is ok too. You made it. So being forced into making code available on your own work is also slavery.
MS Office also had support for WordPerfect files. If you want to have the leading Office software you must have support for your competition. OpenOffice has support for Word documents so it comes as no suprise that MS would do the same.
I thought this was suppose to be a discussion on how we are attached to our virtual names and not a let us all bitch at Blizzard post but instead it seems to be a let us all Bitch at CmdrTaco for raising a serious question about online identities.
Yes, WoW is just a game but just like everything else that is online there are people behind the characters we see on the screen and we sometimes forget that being used to doing what we will with the AI of non online games of the past. I am attached to certain nicknames I use in the virtual world and like CmdrTaco I do get bummed out if they are used by someone else. If there was such a problem with his name why did they not just make their software check some sort of rules for naming or in fact say something 5 months ago to him. It is sad that most GM's are not accountable for what they do. There is noone to turn to if they abuse their power. Blizzard would be wise to implement a supervisor GM model you could call to resolve some problems with GM's themselves. As far as using/. to bring up an interesting topic I say it's about time we discuss something other than the same old DMCA, MS vs Linux or BSD and how Google is taking over the world. Thanks CmdrTaco!
Are we sure it is?
That Charmed reboot looks pretty annoying to me...
In general darkness stands in the way of anything solar powered..
What does Android do that iOS doesn't exactly...?
Flash.... AHHH AHHH!!!
We have the technology, we can rebuild him.

Just in time, I really needed a supercomputer. Let's play Global Thermonuclear War
The answer is YES! Who doen't want to proclaim at the top of their lungs that MS does not have the only browser.
Think of all the power we would save not playing MMOs with the PC turned on.

Maybe some people just want to be Anonymous Cowards.

So it's a little late... Who's the incredible Hulk anyway? I think I forgot.
Could this mean that some people in the middle of the country (literally, both meainings) could finally have access to Broadband other than satellite?
