    No, the sad fact is that the Slashdotters who scream about company X may very well NOT be the Slashdotters who keep their mouths shut and go support company X.

    I realize that the text-only nature of this site filters out a lot of the things we use to recognize individuals, but it's important to realize that Slashdot (nor any other collective without a manifesto or something) is NOT a homogeneous mixture of opinion.

    Last time the economy was doing poorly WE HAD A GIGANTIC TAX CUT. It ruined everything and caused a recession.

    Now another Bush is in power, and the economy is doing poorly. WE JUST PASSED ANOTHER GIGANTIC TAX CUT! (and we'll do it again if we have to!)

    Who need more astronauts? Just grab a couple oil drillers!

    If a shuttle cannot reenter safely, what's the point of keeping it around?

    Let me make a list, I like lists.
    - keep the shuttle in orbit and send the others up to keep the RMS and OMS boosters topped up every so often
    - use it to manipulate satellites with the quickness
    - more space in the ISS!
    - what happens when it breaks? simple, don't keep too many people up there at once

    gimme a break, the coffee machine is out of order

    actually, there is still some mac os documentation and man pages that mention the NXHost option. which of course, no longer exists. oops. The NS prefix is everywhere in the Cocoa API though

    spam is becoming a catch-all term for unsolicited direct marketing in any medium. junk mail, phone calls, email. maybe door-to-door salesmen will get a new name.

    commercials, billboards, signs, ads in magazines, product placement in films and video games, etc. doesn't count, since it's not direct.

    actually, the name NX was used by NeXT for their remote-execution-local-display system. (well NXHost was the name)

    maybe it has to be rehashed because you're still missing it, apparently.

    you don't need QT player to play quicktime movies. you need the quicktime library and a player that uses it. this includes the sorenson codec.
