The success of this tactic shouldn't come as a surprise. Without popularity/attention, financial success is impossible. What follows is that authors/artists must first do what ever to gain attention. After they have got the attention of the masses, then it shouldn't be too difficult to find ways to make money. While mere attention does not implicate income, it is a requirement for income.

Just as your genes are responsible for how your brain can respond to external stimuli. Once the instructions have been given, you, and the robot, are on your own.
In Finland it's (the 'signature' on the receipt) called "a specimen of handwriting". It doesn't need to match on the signature on your credit card. However, I believe one should write some characters at least. Btw, I celebrated the Einstein's jubilee year by signing a receipt "E=mc^2";-)
