    I don't buy it. John Doe is more likely to think that the PC and the OS can't be seperated. He wouldn't consider Windows free just as he wouldn't consider the USB ports free. Anyways, Windows XP does not crash unless you use faulty drivers or it's infected with malware. Both things are just not MSs fault.

    ... if the 'core' feature of neurotic is that it tends to underestimate it's own economy and/or military capabilities this test might only prove that the traditional AI doesn't invest enough in it's economy and sends armies that are too small. This is something I see in every RTS.

    PC WAN games usually include an inbuild or standalone server. Even if no central servers exists you could host you CS using dyndns on your local pc and invite people on message boards etc.

    I saw maybe one complete fucktard that actually believed that the gender of the avatar relates at all to the gender of the player. What it the big deal with choosing a different gender for your avatar? Let's extend this to other games. If I pick CTs in CS does it mean I have to be a special operations military type in real life as well? What if I choose to play Gal Civ as Yor does that mean I'm belong to a robot species bend on destroying the universe?

    Be careful with that razor. Sometimes it shaves off vital parts. It should really come with a warning label "simple is not ALWAYS better. Only apply if two theories actually fit the observations"

    There are actually new Dr Whos .. just google "Dr Who 2006" if that's your kind of thing.

    There are six (seven?) seasons of 24 ... There are three seasons of the 4400 ... There are four seasons of enterprise ... There are three seasons of house ... There are three seasons of BSG ... There is one seasons of Hereos ... There is a gazillion seasons of Scrubs, Futurama, Dr. Who etc etc Had I bought all those shows I couldn't afford much of anything else ;)

    I neglected to say that most of all I hate having to spend money ... Even at one dollar for an episode this would quickly run in the hundreds for long running shows such as 24 . Nevermind the fact that ITunes Germany still won't even sell me US shows (or any show really). If someone offered a reasonable flat rate (say $50) for all the content I like to see I'd say that's the non plus ultra. However, I don't believe this is a realistic expectation.

    Actually he was refering to the fact that this model is not scheduled. By far the larger restriction of television is the fact that you can only watch it when it's on (or after, assuming you've prgrammed your vcr). So I'd say this model still grants a large amount of freedom (in comparision.).

    Please propose an alternative that is still economically viable ...I don't like tv ads. I despise having to watch my shows when they are on. I absolutely hate getting mail from the state prosecutor because I've been illegally downloading hereos. For me, the solution provided by NBC seems to be the most optimal in terms of what can be expected.

    You'd recognize how wrong you are if you where able to step outside the mental box you've locked yourself into. Your view on wow as a grind race completely ruins the game. The believe that you must compete, that you must be at the top, that you have to beat Illidan resides in yourself not in the game. When I said "Make your own fun" I didn't mean that you should pretend to like a game that you don't. That's obviously futile. Rather you should get together with people you like, do what you feel like doing and challenge yourself. Who cares that others have tier999999 gear? Yesterday I've beaten ramparts heroic with some close (real life) friends. We had a lot of fun doing this because we overcame a challenge that to us was actually difficult. We certainly didn't care for loot or honor hold rep ... The lesson: if you play min/max style your expierience will be min (fun)/max(frustration) as well.

    different experiences in a fun way .. what's that supposed to mean? If you can't make your own fun in WoW you'll probably fail everywhere else as well. Your first post was some mathematical abstract on gear progression in WoW. It's really no suprise that you'll be perpertually bored if you choose to view the world this way.

    I think it's save to say that the turkish people existed a long time before the state Republic of Turkey came into being. As with many nation-states today, the name of the nationality is used as an adjective or modifier indicating that the current incarnation of the state (legal entity) is preceded by the nation (or people) it contains. Your statement is akin to saying german culture replaced the culture of the third reich after 1945 i.e. stupid.

    ... he must be living in a very nice ivory tower. Actually I agree with him on things like online office applications and other software of the same complexity level. It probably will be faster, cheaper and more reliable to have them locally. But as software complexity increases (think ERP applications) software-as-a-service becomes a much more attractive proposition. Complex, mission critical applications that need to be configured and fine tuned for months and require several experts to run (ýeah, I'm looking at you SAP ;) benefit greatly from being centralized because the knowledge about the systems needn't be transfered to the "end-user" (=customer), lines of comunication (support -> developement) are much shorter and expensive equipment (fire extinguishers, fail-over power supply, ventilation) don't have to be present at each customer side.

    I'm sorry but you have no idea of what you are talking about. This isn't meant as a personal attack but you obviously don't know how the german jugendschutz (and laws thereof) operate.
    I'll just debunk your first point and would ask you to get to know the actual law before arguing about it:

    technically you are correct. The common usage of the word liberal is a synonym for 'democrat', at least in the US. I was using it in this sense and thought you were too. Describing Germany as liberal in the classical sense just blows my mind. You can't take a shit around here without needing government approval.

    Listen, you wouldn't know. Trust me: the current law already limits advertisment for M-Rated (M-Rated is much easier to get in GER though) games. It explicitly states that the product can't be showcased either. Basically you can not put anything up in the public that even mentions the games name. M-Rating is a death sentence for any game in Germany. The proposed law would extend this treatment to ALL games that focus on violence (C&C, HL, WoW etc etc pp.). The current violent game law is already much tougher than the prohibition of tabacco and alcohol sales to minors.

    Actually, the parent's wouldn't be allowed to let their kids play such games. Secondly, the law prohibits advertisments so no TV spots, no posters, no standup figures, no games convention booth and no copies on retailers shelfes. This might harm them, don't you think?
    I'd act the same way: why the hell pay the high taxes if the country effectivly prevents you from selling you product?
