  1. I have another theory for the hiring on Microsoft in 2008 · · Score: 2, Funny

Hey, it's 2005 (I mean, when Linus joined Microsoft in the story). Microsoft's worried about Google being a bigger monopoly than them.

    - Hey, Bill, Google's trying to own a new area!
    - What now?
    - The Open-Source Developer Hiring. They just got Ben Goodger, from Mozilla!
    - Those bastards. Well, I have an idea. We'll invite Linus, that'll show 'em. And if they hire another communist geek, take me into line with RMS immediatelly!

Now for the most important question: do they have inexpensive broadband access in Curitiba?

I've never been to Curitiba, but considering the prices I know (from Rio de Janeiro and especially Brasília, my city), I'm fairly sure you can get there an ADSL 256 for a monthly fee of US$ 20 or less. I don't know if that's cheap in worldwide terms, but I certainly would feel happier if that price lowered ;-)

What sucks here is that anything above that is quite rare for home use. In Brasília, at least, it is practically impossible.

I wonder what happened to language packs... they used to appear in the Firefox Update window. Now, AFAIK, you can't have more than one language pack (the one that comes with your download) installed.

I'm guessing it's because there's no official way to switch language packs (though there's an extension), but could anybody confirm this?

Now to the topic: there's the Mozilla ActiveX Control an AC posted. Not exactly what you're asking for, but maybe it can be used (or maybe with a few adaptations) as a control inside IE. Yeah, it'd be somewhat weird to have a rendering engine inside a rendering engine, but you could use it to display XUL.

    Well, I'm buying it.

My main reason is that when I do a Google Images search, the number of 404s I get when trying to see the actual pictures is fairly high; depending on the search, I think I already got over 50% broken links.

So, the indication that Google Images' index is outdated does make sense to me. Just like the guy that reported his Morgan Webb picture is still indexed "7 months after it was removed".

Now moving on, I'll happily wait for this update, so the image search gets useful again and returns more than a bunch of outdated links.
