Because dummy, the fewer webapps written to IE and M$ crap the better. And the more likely they will WORK with ANY web browser.
Prime example: PVCS web interface. It ONLY works with IE or Netscape 4.7(in linux). Period. Doesn't work with anything else, and is not OPEN so we can fix it.
"We're fixated on automobiles because it is the most effective available form of transit. It allows for freedom of movement."
Not really.
Most cars are 4 passenger (or more) and a large cargo area. 99% of the time I see 1 person in a car.
Motorcycles are far more efficient. My 15 year old motorcycle gets 45mpg around town. If I got a new 250cc I'd get 70mpg. Limited cargo, but it still possible to carry stuff.
And one other point, someone mentioned shifting schedules. Why do ALL businesses HAVE to start at 9am anyway?
Oh and 1 more, why not keep the big rigs and old farts headed to Walmart, off the streets between 7-9am ????
Many Chrysler products have whats called a BCU (a Body Control Unit) that controls: wipers, electric door locks, electric windows, instruments, interior lights, exterior lights, radio, heat/ac, etc.
The BAD design choices Chrysler engineers made: 1. including the odometer eeprom. this makes swapping the dam^ thing a PITA. 2. no diagnostic info, and 3. no Built in Test(BIT).
A firmware based component such as this should be a 60 second replacement. I bet you can change the fire control computer in a F-14 in 60 seconds, the paperwork takes longer.
This kind of stuff needs to be OPEN, so that 3rd parties can built cheap replacement parts.
WANTED: chrysler BCU source code. The next time someone hacks Chrysler computers please get that code.
FTA: "A major ad campaign slated to start in coming weeks will trumpet the notion that you can do many great things using Windows. "
...Mr. Potter, Windows chooses the wizard.
Curious. Curious indeed. You see Mr. Potter your Windows has the tailfeather of a Phoenix. That Phoenix gave only 1 other tailfeather. To the Windows that 'he-who-must-not-be-named' uses. He did many great things using Windows. TERRIBLE things...but great.
:^)
Gee, I hope I don't get sued by that Rowlings b!t(h.
I heard the ads last week or two on the radio about how the Ala Legislature was 'saving the citizens from high phone prices'. I'll bet this was the catch. I thought these ads were VERY strange.
I cannot find any links to any actual bills, but I'll keep searching.
Chris: "Well, why do you go into the closet?" Mitch: "To get my clothes, but thats NOT why HE goes in there." Chris: "Of course not, he'd never fit in your clothes. Think about these things Mitch. 20 points higher than me huh, thinks a big guy like that can wear his clothes?"
Oh yeah opt out. Sure. Let me write you a personal check for that. Oh wait, did you notice that in Jan 2005 80% of the retail outlets posted signs "No Personal Checks"
Soon, they'll post NO CASH..Electronic Transactions Only. Then try to opt out.
No, they are broken! Not in the fundamental copying of files, but in the fundamental way that dlls are versioned. In DLLs proper versioning is developer dependant. Woe to you if your vendor screws up the version label. This same flaw exists in linux installs (and RPM in particular) but at the user side. Oddly the only process that will actually check lib versions is autoconfig, and only if the developer specs those rules.
MSI and InstallShield can do nothing to prevent DLL HELL. in fact these products often require the developer to do some awful wicked manual testing of various dlls to make sure the right ones are in place.
I know I did 10 years of VB and vb installs. I worked at one of the many companies writing windows install software.
For the most part, linux is way better, even with crummy install tools.
Hay did you guys see in last weeks issue (Mon or Tues cant remember) of USAToday, some pundit had 10 ways the new CEO at Disney could 'Turn the company around'.
#1 Make up with Pixar.
I laughed so hard I almost peed myself. I could picture SteveJ peeing himself with luaghter over that phone call too.
Not 1 of the ten things covered: 1. Hire smart employees 2. Renew the animation department
Not that I care, I just thought it incredible that all the SMART financial cna CEO types do not see the problems for the forest.
Hey try here:

In another culture, these guys would be called BrownShirts or Gestapo. The tax department has its own armed force. Ministry of Justice eh?
12 built in cell phone jammer
13 remove the cup holders
Holy Farking sh(t!
At least where you are they call you 'employees'.
Dang, here we are just 'resources'.
And people wonder WTF is wrong with America?
Not really, especially for this size device.
Caterpillar (and others) now use a Rubber Endless Loop Track (i.e. BIG rubber band). No pins, no shoes, no clanking.

THATS the problem with M$ popularity!

Yup, hate it too.
Waiting for the day when a bill is passed that makes it illegal for anyone other than the Executive to sign or vote on a bill.
Moo, I mean er, Baa.
Screw electric. I'd rather have 2 wheels with a diesel powerplant! http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_bikes.html 120mpg 100mph
Dear Sir,
Please research this and tell me 2 vertical apps that have no linux equivalent.
I want to be rich.
Thank you.
Time to send this myth to MythBusters.
Myth: Linux is HARD to use.
Result: Busted!
Man, NASA needs to get Goerge Lucas on the PR team.
"No, we did NOT plan for monthly flights, our REAL plan was a psuedo random schedule with sometimes a few years between each."
George Lucas
"I've always planned 9, er 6, yeah 6 movies."
George Lucas
They are coming.
We got a note in the mail a few weeks back from the insurance company. All members are getting new cards, ones without SSNs right on the front.
I 100% GUARANTEE you this is so they don't get sued.
Actually makes me kinda happy I live in a non-cap, non-tort-reform state.
Maaayyyybe they just don't know about it yet.
CVS is open so no probs there (other than he must make that derived portion available as source).
Perhaps someone in FOSS should contact someone at Sun to see if they are aware of this derivative work????
No matter, I shall certainly NOT recommend BitKeeper as a VCS. Hows that Larry?
This is also apparently happening in Alabama.

This short little page does absolutely nothing to give you the notion of exactly HOW TERRIBLY AWFUL PVCS really is.
On my whiteboard:
"PVCS, the 'S' is for Suks"
Walking robots, pfft!

I'm building a Mk1 Ogre in the backyard.
All I need is 15,000 pounds of BPC armor, and a few more lines of code to finish the Descartes package.
Awww, you beat me to it.
That Irene, she knows all the gossip.
Also don't forget, not mentioned here, but you can be sure that the Major League Baseball satellites can crack WEP in 90 seconds.
I luv the Simpsons.

Lets negotiate over that, shall we?
Duh!
Most projects are delivered on CD-ROMs.
