    How do you pronounce 'Daimler-Chrysler'?

In Germany the Chysler part is silent.

However your argument falls apart on some levels. Toyota, Honda and Hyundai are all building automotive plants in Alabama USA. As usual the only that remains the same is change. Also not everything that is seen is real and not everything that is real is seen.

And I agree with parent here, from my view, US corps are ACTIVELY trying to get rid of engineers. They want to force low pay, long hours, no recognition, treatment as 'resources' and not a human being. At this company, it was the maverick runnings of 3 engineers, who despite managements repeated screwups pulls in $8 mill(US$) a quarter and growing. And still we are treated like crap.

The Right Stuff and Apollo 13(?).

Both admirable films, but you should read the books, they are far more entertaining.

This particularly, alas it appears out of print.

"Apollo: The Race to the Moon" by Charles Murray and Catherine Bly Cox.
This is the most sought after history of Project Apollo. Particularly interesting because it focuses on the engineers and flight controllers of the program rather than the astronauts. The astronauts aren't ignored, but people like Gene Kranz, Glynn Lunney, Gerry Griffin, Chris Kraft, and Rocco Petrone are the stars.

Perhaps the most moving accounts of the Apollo 1 fire, the lunar landing of Apollo 11, and the Apollo 13 accident ever written. For example, if you want the inside story of how a young Guido named Steve Bales and a back-roomer Jack Garman correctly diagnosed multiple 1201 and 1202 alarms and saved Armstrong & Aldrin's lunar landing, the this is the book to read. Out of print.

I'm not sure that helps at all.

Here we have Boeing and Lockheed. Everyone else has been purchased by one of these 2 mega-corps. The F-16 would not have occurred under these conditions. It seems as if the large corporations have done themselves in by 'purchasing' everyone and everything and placing them in a 'BOX'.

Innovation does not come from a BOX.

The Japanese buy most of their rocket stuff from us(USA).

I submit that the reason NASA got results 40 years ago was because they were 'doers' with a vision and a goal (a lifelong goal for Werner von Braun by the way), and that all these people were replaced by beaurocrats a long time ago.

There is a serious problem with the way America does business and NASA is a glaring iceberg tip for anyone who really wants to investigate it.

Please reread history and rethink the BIG PICTURE of human nature. We have not ended war by having 2 massive wars. We have simply changed the nature of it. The rich countries, USA, Europe, Russia, Japan, fight them with expensive pinpoint weapons. The poorer countries such as those in Africa do it the old fashioned way, with dumb bullets, and bayonet charges. The cruelty in poor wars is beyond belief. Yet, these are never reported to the civilised world. And you, who feels that America is a bully, have no knowledge or care of them, do you?
