I sometimes disparage painters...the proudest I've ever been as an amature 'medicine' cultivator was when a painter asked for something weaker than trainwreck, as he couldn't do his job on it. But the good painters can plaster flat as glass. Thousands of hours experience does make a difference.
When I was in school, one of the guys in the lab wrote a bunch of low priority jobs to run on the VAX. Their only job was to flash the lights on the panels of various components so programs appeared to visibly 'jump' from one component to another (as the low priority tasks were swapped out).
I'm pretty right wing (not a thumper though, fuck them). I'd support UBI on two conditions.
1. All the other programs it's supposed to replace are cancelled and defunded by the same legislation. 'Workers' are all fired, not assigned to do nothing jobs. No new money required is the promise, that has to be built into the law.
2. You can sign up for UBI or to vote, but not both. So they can never get to 51% of the population and vote themselves Cadillacs.
