  1. Cross platform tools on How do You Protect Your Online Privacy? · · Score: 2, Informative

    Some cross platform tools I use both under Linux and Windows:

    • Firefox with PermitCookies extension (to easily enable cookies on trusted websites) and BugMeNot extension (to avoid compulsory registration at popular websites)
    • When really needed (since it's pretty slow) Tor + Privoxy to surf anonymously
    • Thunderbird + Enigmail for email
    • Gaim + gaim-encryption plugin for IM
    • Truecrypt for disk encryption (latest version runs great under Linux too, although there is no GUI yet)
    • Throw-away email accounts like mailinator.com

    But most importantly: /dev/brain

    If you care about your privacy, don't give away your data to everyone!

  3. Filtering could do wonders on CEOs Who Invite Email From All Employees · · Score: 5, Funny

    But reading and replying to dozens of employee messages each day takes time that could be spent doing something else. Skeptics say the practice distracts CEOs from more-pressing work

    Well, just use this procmail recipe to filter 90% of messages out:

    :0
    * ^From.*mycompany.com
    * ^Subject.*raise
    /dev/null

    I don't have the foggiest as to what spacial tree mode really means. Can anybody enlighten me or point me at some screen shots?

    I guess it's a sort of hybrid between spatial browsing and hierarchic navigation as in this screenshot.

    It seems locked into a 30 second timeout

    Actually the NT bootloader timeout is configurable inside the boot.ini file:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=n
