Calling someone a troll when they are moded as such isn't an insult, it's a fact. At least two other people (other then him) found your posts to be trolls and were moded as such and there doesn't seem to be anyone pushing your posts up. Like it or not, to slashdot you are a troll. Whining will not change that fact.
1. A magnetron is nothing more then a specialized vacuum tube. When it overheats the the filaments melt rendering the tube useless.
2. The magnetron is in the back of the microwave not in the door (which is where the explosion started.
Once a fraud always a fraud.
I am no pyro tech (but I am a pyro;)) to me it looks like they lined the door with det. cord and used another charge under the cradle where the spinning plate would usually lie. This explains why the technician slides it into the microwave rather then placing it in which would be more natural, to hide the charge.
Preventing others from using the subject of the patent in their own products/processes is a consequence of the implementation of the first aim; it is not the sole aim of patents.
If the owner of the patent markets a product that uses the features described in the patent the R&D costs are recouped though the sale of the product. Preventing others from using the subject of the patent for it's term is the prerogative of the owner of the patent. Is there really much difference between refusing to license a patent and charging a license fee that would be so excessive it is undesirable.
As much as this patent is interesting and could help transform computers into something more versatile and useful, it's still a patent which impedes anyone else using the idea at the commercial level.
I am all for patent reform but... Isn't that the whole point of patents?
Bah. The iPhone had nothing on the Apply releasing MacOS on Intel rumor. That thing was floating around almost as long as MacOS has been around, well until they actually did it.
Haha, you are funny dude. The police force is not an "industry" like the software industry or the auto industry. Believe it or not, law breakers (drunk drivers, murderers, wife beaters etc...) usually don't bother with OSHA standards or worry about whether or not the cop is going to have to work overtime. Police protect their own for a reason, nobody else is there to protect them, regardless of what the law says.
Police should be able to beat people because they have to work overtime? That is about the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Call it whatever you like but being a police officer is a job, just because it has a greater amount of danger doesn't justify not following the rules of the job. No one puts a gun to anyone's head when a person decides to enter the police force they know the risk when they chose the job and certainly no one can prevent a police officer from quitting. These guys know the rules, getting rid of those who chose to ignore or break them need to be removed period.
People with your mentality are the reason I posted. You just don't understand. Applying black and white legalalities to a very gray reality is not always reasonable.
You know nothing about me and tell me I don't understand. You are going to have to try something better then that.
That video is a political tool (to what ends, I don't know) and you are being used by it. Congratulations, you have been duped by someone elses agenda.
What a weak excuse. It came from someone with an agenda... So what? It certainly doesn't make it wrong. At least I have some evidence to base my opinion on. That is a heck of a lot more then you got. I really don't care what you think of me but removing police brutality in addition to many things I don't like IS my agenda.
Pthhh. Only if your a conformist sheep and follow the heard by holding the map with North on the top. Real men don't confine themselves by such frivolous things such as standards!
He was trying to avoid being punched in the face, by grabbing the offending officers arm.
I said unable to avoid being punched as in he couldn't protect himself. Even boxers who get punched in the face a lot try to protect their faces it's a natural reaction for one to attempt to protect themselves. The suspect trying unsuccessfully to protect himself does not distract from the fact that he was restrained and at no time in the immediate time in which the punches were thrown was any officers life in danger from him.
If that guy put other innocent peoples' lives in danger, I have no problem with the cops getting in a few cheap shots. I don't care what a bunch of/.er's think "the law says this..." or "the law say that...", our court system doens't work and I support a little vigialnte justice.
This guy is innocent until a court says otherwise. Police applying unnecessary violence is harming the innocent. This isn't some stupid loophole it's a cornerstone of the justice system, if they cannot adhere to the rule of law they should get the hell out of the industry. If you want to do your own vigilante justice go right ahead but don't cry to me when you end up in prison with those you enact your justice on. Personally I hold criminals with badges in the same regard as criminals without them.
4. In the video, you can see the offender grabbing the officer's inner thigh before the officer started to punch the offender.
One could say that clutching or grabbing is a natural reaction to airway obstruction. Regardless why he would deem it warranted to punch him in the face repetitively rather then removing the hand and continue to punch him after the hand left his thigh I can only guess. It sounds more like an excuse then a reason to me.

5. LAPD have a long history of brutality. "There is a significant number of officers in the LAPD who repetitively use excessive force against the public and persistently ignore the written guidelines of the department regarding force" -- Christopher Commission report, p. iii and p. 31.
Police officers are also civilians and have to abide by the laws. Having a badge doesn't exempt the carrier of the badge from obeying the law regardless how pissed off they are what whomever. It would be damn hypocritical for those who uphold the law to not follow the same law.
Technically, the Miller/Wegman (IBM) algorithm describes
"LZW" in patent #4,814,746, filed 11 August 1986, predating
Welch's supposedly independent re-invention.
From what I recall and I am no expert, LZW was first described in patent 4,558,302 by Unisys. The IBM patent #4,814,746, filed 3 years later added a string compression scheme to the unisys #4,558,302 (which expired in 2003). The LZW compression used by Gif doesn't need string compression so never used the additions covered under the IBM patent, but just the vanilla Unisys one.
Trains can be either DC or AC it's actually an option when you order them. From what I have heard the AC models tend to offer more HP per watt but at the same time are a bit more complex having to have both DC and AC.
A deisel train engine is a generator the traction motors on the train are just that motors that are driven by the generator. It's actually a really cool design for a vehicle and allows for breaking using resistive loads across the traction motors (aka dynamic breaking)
Netscape navigator was never "inspired" by mosaic. A more fitting description would be a name-change, or a fork.
Netscape never used Mosaic code. I repeat Netscape never used NCSA code. NCSA owned the code of Mosaic and they never licensed to Netscape so unless you are claiming that they stole the code then inspired is a heck of a lot more accurate then name-change or fork. Or if you really want to split hairs as you seem to be doing then "loosely based" would probably be most accurate.
The fact that the article mentions NCSA Mosaic is completely irrelevant, as long as it completely misrepresents it.
Don't be asinine your argument was "...but he doesn't even remember it's immediate predecessor NCSA Mosaic... And you expect me to think this person is more qualified to predict the future of the web, than someone else, such as my grandmother?" he clearly did remember about Mosaic for whatever foolish reason you deem it important to do so. Don't go telling me that something is irrelevant when you set the criteria for relevance in the first place.
Call me old-fashioned and it could be due to my certainly not top of the line ATI9200 video card but while 3d is great for games and social networks and such I have found 3d to be a very poor conveyor information that isn't 3d itself. Many things that make the 3d environment great for 3d, realistic lighting bump mapping etc. make reading or viewing 2d information awkward at best and quite often painful for more then a few chunks of information. I am sure there are plenty of ways around this but virtually all of them require breaking out of the 3d paradigm which makes things more of a hybrid then a true 3d world.
but he doesn't even remember it's immediate predecessor NCSA Mosaic, or the predecessor of the web: gopher?
From the article:
In the mid 1990s, the Mountain View-based Netscape Communications released Netscape Navigator, inspired by the Mosaic browser that founder Marc Andreessen co-authored for the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. It was neither the first nor the only software capable of accessing online content, but it was the first user-friendly browser or "client" unbound by the limitations of content providers and ISPs.
Seriously, if you are going to complain about not having insert keyword here in an article at least do a search of the page to see if it's not there first.
ISA = Instruction Set Architecture

Methinks it's time for your medication. *backs away slowly*
JPEG patent expired last month. The LZW compression patent expired back in June 20th, 2003.
IIRC it's the Dutch who are big on the Mayo thing.

Just because HP doesn't seem to want to defend the copyright doesn't mean the files are in the public domain.
