Perhaps for you, but you don't have autism, do you? I wouldn't underestimate a savant's capabilities by immediately assuming any such task is "too" anything.
Firewalls.... private networks... storage mediums containing the necessary security patches...
These are all viable solutions. Doesn't have to be a chicken and egg situation.
I certainly wouldn't call The Dalles a "little hick town". Nearby Hood River/Parkdale/Odell, OR is much closer to a little hick town than The Dalles is. I would much sooner label The Dalles a "disgusting ugly drug-dealing polluted air and water crackhead town".
