I think if you want to see what things could be like with a merge of reality and virtual (augmented) reality, you will enjoy this. Many connections can be made with current gaming and this novel.
Computerworld should just close up shop for this worthless piece of journalism, or at least give their author the boot for doing any work with Craig Barth who represents a team of morons. samzenpus should be given a troll rating for getting this to Slashdot.
AOL/TWC have gone through so many reorganizations and consolidations, the best and brightest have been gone from the company for quite some time. This is just a result of continuing to run a failing course.
It seems that people are missing the point with this technology.
Think about all the enterprise services that this spans. I'm seeing a Sharepoint, Exchange, and LCS killer here at a minimum. I was hoping to see Google Video/Voice chat mixed with this, but I would say that it's probably not too far off. If it had that, goodbye to WebEx, Genesys, etc.
This is a collaboration tool, and that's it. There's no spam in a controlled audience. Even where this thing can be exposed like blogs and wiki sites, you have complete control over what gets included and published.
My favorite browser on Linux is elinks. Mouse integration with the correct shell is awesome, not to mention site rendering.
Although, for GUI based browsers, Opera is starting to gain my attention, but the mirrors to download it suck. I just downloaded it today to try it out and took forever. I downloaded FF3 on release record day and got it quicker.
In every enterprise setup I've worked in, I'm constantly seeing 4x-8x the amount of machines and hardware needed to support a business service in Microsoft shops. Maybe this is because of the admin's and project manager's lack of understanding between what the vendor says it can do on a given platform, and what you can really make it do. I still recall running over a million email accounts on Netscape/Sun and watching Microsoft's ISP email solution falter under a 250k load.
It could very well be like Cisco. Cisco tends to teach through their CCDP & CCNP tracks their marketing aspect of network design. However, their products if used properly scale well beyond the levels at which the sales people say they operate at.
So, I would say that Microsoft shops suffer from both incompetence in implementation, bean counters pushing technical decisions, and customers being sold through deceptive means. Caveat Emptor!
I don't see how you can have a system core dumping without a major unaddressed hardware failure. I run several production servers on the bleeding edge with regards to kernel level and application level. The only failures that I've ever experienced on any of our servers is hard drive failures. So, I'm thinking this was paid for propeganda in order to falsify reasons to which this change was made.
That's right, you know Dan's going to be hitting the streets looking for a job soon enough. Let's make sure we keep Dan employed, and put him in charge of censoring the news for google...hell he could just make it all up for them.:-)
polybrominated diphenyl ethers or PBDE for short, is similar in nature to PCB's which actually can effect your health way beyond allergies. Here's a couple sites for you to visit. Not to mention all the toxic metals used in the board that constantly being heated up.
This is just another example of attorney's taking advantage of Judge's being malinformed on current technologies. I'd like to see them start advertising/30's on the backbone. Since they don't, should be interesting to see how this customer can take an IP with him, considering that the IP addresses aren't owned, they are assigned. Therefore there can never be a conveyance of ownership.
Ummm...I would hold an AM radio to your computer and hear the birdies coming from your computer/monitor.:-) As for cell phone, um it's and RF device which is supposed to transmit and recieve RF signals. So, it's more discreet in it's transmissions. Likewise, hold up the phone to the AM radio. There should be significantly less birdies.
The moral to the story is, your computer is NOT an RF device, so any leakage would be considered interference if it were great enough. And in my house, since I operate HF radio, my computers are all in FCC certified cases without windows or missing appendages.
Didn't someone once say that "freedom is just another word for having nothing else to lose". Hmmm... don't think America is very free anymore, and the patent system is not only wasting the industries time, it's wasting the justice system's time dealing with all these bogus court cases. What really scares me if one of these looney judges rules in favor of upholding these vague patent claims.
Works like a champ, just had to filter my outbound mail to a local SMTP server, but they've had it for quite some time. I hope on the version they release, which I would assume lives on a different server, would have better control of aging. You have to play with the settings in the AOL client now to adjust any of those options.
Typical Downstream of 256 QAM = 37 Mbps after overhead, and Upstream is QAM16 = 8 Mbps after overhead. Typically you don't see those results, because you have to add in the factor of noise and losses due to distance and node combination. That downstream will typically be shared between 1000-1500 customers and the upstreams are shared from 0-300 customers.

Of course you want to go to grad school! Isn't it the ultimate escape from reality?

Am I missing something, when did BIND not qualify as Open Source?

Sounds like a completely acceptable cause.
