    what the...? the first MacOS was a copy of the Xerox Alto demo Jobs saw, and lets not forget Jobs most famous quote - Good artists copy; great artists steal.
    Sure they add their own stuff to things, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a copy.

    some phones use really horrible outdated kernel versions, mostly because they have blobs in them that aren't updated.
    this is a good step in the right direction, but google could still do more.

    No ads you say? There were no ads in cable either in the beginning. Give it time.

    There is a huge difference, it's very easy to stop your subscription and go to another streaming service that doesn't do ads.
    if you cancel your cable, it's so much more difficult and sometimes you even have to pay because they will 'disconnect' your cable or some other bs excuse.

    hmm, like developing a new language between eachother, or doing things nobody actually knows how they work. of those wonderful fails of MS AI twitterbot that turns into a nazi. testosterone has nothing to do with it and true AI is way beyond the point of 'somebody programmed it into it'.

    i mean, what is stopping anybody of making fake signs and putting them up and misleading self driving cars.
    you could lure people to a certain place by making fake 'turn here' signs, or make them stop suddenly with a fake stop sign.
    who could tell the difference (human or AI)? might as well be some temporary sign because of road works up ahead, etc.

    it's because those apps are full of spyware and other bs. there was research done which found a popular weather app to contain more then 300 spyware links, no wonder it was big. Just write an app yourself, or check out those app sizes on f-droid, they are not that big, because they don't cary all that extra weight that you don't need (but the companies that make those apps sure do).

  21. haven't checked the official android dev guides from google in a very long time, but there used to be a section in there on the do's and don'ts for your application, specifically targetting performance & battery life. they are probably just checking if these methods are used.

  22. Pets used to eat mostly left-overs from their owner's plates. Then we started producing food specially for them, which is one of the main reasons hat they live about twice as long as they used to.

    yes, and by that reducing the waste produced by humans, because their (pet) animals ate it all. for some animals you even get something in return, for example chickens, give them your left over waste food and you get eggs in return.

    Having said that, the stuff in cat and dog food tens to be the stuff that humans don't want. Mechanically recovered head meat, the kind of stuff that only KFC would try to feed you out of one of their buckets.

    And my cat loves fruit and vegetables. Western cat food seems to be mostly meat, but Japanese cat food has a lot more fruit, vegetables and seafood in it.

    right, as if any fast food or processed meat products contain high quality meat...

    Oh, you think Flash is a security problem now? Publish the source code to it. The malware writers will go over that with a fine toothed comb, and the rate of zero-days will go up by a factor of 10 until they finally exhaust it.

    great, then it will be so vile and dangerous nobody in their right mind will use it. just stopping support will not finish off flash (just look at the amount of people still using win-xp).

    because other projects started integrating systemd parts. other distro's could either drop those projects (but they were popular), or use systemd and continue to offer said projects.
    and all in all, systemd does offer some benefits, or rather said promises, but it just does too much and keeps evolving as 'the blob' growing bigger and bigger. when other distro's stepped in, it was still something small'ish.

    * timesyncd assuming ntpd role, but then doing stupid things like defaulting to Google NTP which is NOT a normal NTP service! Asked by google to not do that, responded EWONTFIX (systemd github issues #437), among many other issues ...

    that's the second time now i learned that systemd just ignores failure and takes some default value instead of actually failing. this is not what you want, it's total lunacy and idiotic.

    the previous time it was when a user doesn't exist, it just goes ahead and runs as root instead.

    the right action is to fail, not to go ahead and do something that was not requested.
