Two million people doing the same can change Sony's behavior.
It worked for the Democratic Party.
Why Don't They Spend Money On Better Music?

Sony's New DRM Technique

I understand the impluse to optimize the amount of money returned on an investment, but this is bullshit. I guess I will have to start dumping my audio out to my hard drive and burn from there.
These guys need a serious kick in the ass. I'm buying my son a Nintendo instead of a PS3.
lets let obsolete hardware become obsolete and stop computing in the stone age.
I understand your reasoning, but the same could be said for classic cars. No one that collects vintage cars is buying them because they are more efficient or are built to more modern standards. They buy them because they represent an era in automotive history.
I bought the Ultra to explore an alternative architecture to the x86. I also have a future museum piece to add to a collection of other fine specimens of computing hardware.
I don't intend on dumping them just because someone would like me to quit using them. I do have modern equipment that runs modern OSs. I also have equipment that I am working to preserve for my own collection.
It is encouraging to see any independent label for cartoons come into existance. Like music, film, or any other artistic medium it is better to have more outlets than fewer. I enjoyed, during my early teen and, later, my college years, a variety of "underground" comics (e.g. R. Crumb, Gilbert Shelton) that would have *never* existed at established publishing houses. Some probably shouldn't have existed, but there you are.
The only concern I have with independent labels is their ability to fight off incorporation or extinction. Some independent music and film outlets have consolidated leaving these media under the control of only a few companies. We have all seen the result of that outcome.
I was thinking how some rabid Slashdotter would twist this into having to do with Microsoft.
1) Because of its dominance in the computer market, there is virtually no topic that doesn't have an Microsoft angle to it. Microsoft would have it no other way.
2) Which rabid Slashdotter would you be referring to? The one who makes unflattering comparisons of Microsoft products to the stuff I just loaded into the waste can, or the one who gleans every Slashdot article looking for a disparaging remark about Microsoft?
If someone wanted to organize a third party they should base it on the 80% of us that are not represented by the far out flakes on either side.
Find the party that fits your idology best and work the crowd. Organizing involves convincing people that the party you represent shares 80% of their views. You will find that there are more people out there who share your dissatisfaction with the current two-party blame match.
But I agree with the opinion if, as a developer and/or integrator, you are attempting to reach a mass market. Red Hat, then SuSE and others have abandoned the Sparc platform awhile ago. I bought an old Ultra 1 and am now limited to a few distros to keep my Sparc machine up to date.
But it was my understanding that the idea behind open source was to roll your own if your machine was not covered. If I want to keep the Sparc chugging along, I guess I'd better learn to port it myself.
at the end of the food chute are going to look rough in the editing room.
I'd heard that someone had developed a device like this a few years back, but the thing that I wondered about was control. I guess the early models were the ones that I had heard about, because they didn't have any external operational control.
I hope the bug pulls its legs out before the big exit.
They're stepping on the toes of large, multi-national corporations many of whom have major media holdings and could make life very, very painful for the US government.
Your comment reminded me of a thought I had regarding the fines that everyone wanted Microsoft to pay for using its monopoly to crush competition. Before the USDOJ action, Microsoft was one of those rare companies that made no significant political contributions to either party. I'm sure this had more to do with their wanting to stay out of someone's crosshairs, but they only made token lobbying efforts as well.
After the judgement, they dump a ton of cash on both parties and they lobby every bill that may have an impact on their business operations.
They're paying their fine: one congressman at a time.
When did the Bush administration become concerned about legality? Their previous stances on issues including torture, sovereign right of nations, and the role of Article 2 power has been done without discussing it with anyone.
Now all of the sudden they are getting a read from the courts?
Any version of Linux will work, but you have to be careful not to load up on services, libraries, and select a light-weight window manager. IceWM and FVWM would be good choices.
It would be nice to see how they get thier update informaton. Distrowatch has the same information, but this site appears to be focused strictly on providing links to torrents.
Does this site represent all of the distros available, or just those most used? (with stats drawn from where?)
Nasa has been doing this kind of crap ever since they finished the Space Shuttles. They start down a promising path of cheaper, more efficient access to orbit, just ditch the research.
Government agencies are not equipped to commercialize basic scientific research. The shuttle was an attempt to make space flight more routine and cheap, but has instead become incredibly expensive and dangerous.
Oooh, that'll do it.

They aren't getting one more dime from me.

What's your motivation for staying with it?
For the same reason I tried Linux in 1996: interest in alternatives.
That won't be happening. This country will go down in flames as a two party system before anything else is considered.
Spoken like a true Whig.
Thanks for the heads up.

OpenBSD has great Sparc support, mostly because some key developers love the platform.
I picked up a copy from their ftp site last week. I will be installing it this week.
Have you run OpenBSD on Sparc?
Any snags to watch out for?
Also, to only bother to support linux is no better than only bothering to support windows!
Too true.

Why are you ignoring the fact that half the of the Democrats in office at the time voted FOR the Patriot Act.
Why this comment should bother me is beyond me.
I'm a Libertarian. The ol' "The other guy did it too!" argument doesn't hold water with me.

Damn, that was funny. :)
Congress creates the bills, the President merely signs them into law./I.
Both Article 1 and 2 powers are in the hands of one party: Republicans.
Sigh... here goes another moonbat delusional hatefest on Slashdot.
Mocking Republicans for doing the same stuff that Democrats were demonized for is pure sport for Libertarians.
The sooner people realize that there is a fractional difference between the two, the sooner we can return to true competition in politics.
Republicans=Democrats who used to smoke pot until their kids started stealing their stash.
Wow first post out and already Facist is being used. Not that I disagre but.. Wow!
Apparently eveyone objected to my use of the word "socialist", so I changed it to keep everyone's panties smooth and not bunchy.

Exactly what newer methods?
This platform.
Get your facts straight.
Which facts?
