  2. why go to mars when most of us are living there? on Book Review: Moon-Mars Commission Report · · Score: 1

Considering how wacked the world is, what's the point of going there, other than to say We Were Here? We might as well I suppose, considering that we probably won't be around in a century. Take a look at this site and you'll get the idea. This world is in GREAT hands ;-)

There was a time when many intellectuals started private journals and newspapers. The net is giving people the opportunity to start newspapers, like www.brainsnap.com or www.theonion.com. Fifteen years ago, starting an independent press would be expensive and have an incredibly small circulation for many years. This can potentially over throw the largest brokers of news, but on the other hand, they do still have all the money. Marketing is everything in this world today.

Actually, intelligence isn't necessarily genetic, its a matter of training and mental exercise. Perhaps the most important thing to realise, if you're intelligence, is ones own shortcomings. Intelligence can be powerful for learning, but doesn't imply 'good judgement'. I think the most important advice is to cultivate 'character' and realise that in seeking out people to 'be around', that good character and judgement (or wisdom) is much more important than simply intelligence. Intelligence and curiosity has value, but knowing how to live and be accepting and tolerant are more important skills. Learning to be happy is an untaught skill, learning how to find ones ego as 'boring and misleading' is another- but far more important than most others. Also, diversify your knowledge base, and read avidly, look into the past and read good literature through your life. You'll find it reassuring and redemptive.

I'm gonna recommend those guys. I think funnier or at least more reliable than 'the onion'. its not spoken word or radio, but they can be hilarious sometimes.

this is gloomy stuff. its true that people in this country (the US) confuse patriotism with blind unquestioning faith in what they're sometimes told. what strikes me is that the internet doesnt seem to be helping americans take a look outside their borders. there are plenty of problems that we suffer that have been solved overseas, and plenty of problems that foreign countries have 'deliberately' avoided. This is off topic but i saw an article called 'Israeli Government Seeks Bulldozer Operators With Experience' at brainsnap.com and got a kick out of it. its not serious but i shouldnt have to say that should i?
