I don't care how you spin it. 1024 is the multiple. NOT 1000!

It's all because of technology getting widespread. Don't get me wrong I _don't_ mean people getting more technological, just more of them using it. Engineers, coders, etc. just know what a byte is, what the whole binary system is/has been used for, why 1024 as a multiplier was nice, things about computer history, we just don't "get" the whole "ambiguous" story what people were referring to when they introduced the whole kibibyte joke. We just know what we are talking about, what we are referring to and there's no ambiguity. But, among the general public, kilo just means kilo, they don't know or just simply don't care about the whole 1024 issue, and you know, the crowd always wins. We just have to live with it. But, thing is, we don't have to blindly accept it. I always use the 1024 base when appropriate and when somebody looks questioningly, I tell them what's all about, if they are willing to listen.

Otherwise I just don't care. If they want kibi or kilo, give them kibi or kilo.

People spend time and resources in developing those results and then another amount of time and resrouces to write them, then another pack of people spend an amount of time and resources to review those wtitings and then some money to publish them. Why on Earth do people think the final product of this sometimes quite consuming and lengthy process should be made freely available to the rest of them ? This is stupid.

It's somewhat reasonable to think that an intelligence developed by us would think similarly, but I can just hope that intelligence will figure out a new philosophy regarding IP and kick us in the butts big time.

And remember, copying oneself is a form of reproduction, and a fairly effective one, why do you think an artificial life form would not consider reproducing this way ? Creating a new conciousness and implanting into it the data of experiences, knowledge gained by the creator might just be a natural way to create artificial siblings.

I don't think it's about that. I mean, since Intel quickly pumped out something which seems like being 4 core cpu which took far shorter than to develop a new quad core design cpu makes them seem to lag behind, so what can you do to explain ? Not much really, besides what they said above, that Intel got quicker because it's not really a quad core design. Despite what some extra-equality preachers say, there are areas of life where the distribution of men and women are just not equal, and why should they be ? People have much more freedom of choice these days in choosing their ways of life and their presence in some particular field, we should let them act accordingly. If we begin to artificially "help" to increase some numbers, imbalance could occur which would be harder to counter. Then, if we pick a group of people, what's to stop us from picking another later, and then another, and what we end up with is money spent in vain.

There were times [somewhat still existent] when women just could not get into some fields, but today this has changed enormously. Today even pregnancy doesn't count that much since most women have children at a much later age nowadays than they used to be one or two decades ago and they have time to establish themselves to ensure they will have a continuing career after pregnancy.

So, where do I got with this ? I don't really know. All in all, I wouldn't mind seeing a higher number of IT women, but I don't think we should treat them as being at such high disadvantage.

Ladies, please feel free to argue otherwise, I'd - and I think many of us would - really like to see whether such studies really reflect your status and wishes.
