Do you and your developers feel comfortable with Java? If not, don't go there. Also this sounds like a control application... it seems like Android is too much for that.
Totally agreed. I think corporations are wasting money on TV. The future is personalised adds. I also consider myself add-influence-free (thank God). I think that with the hand of technology is possible to deliver information that's useful for each individual. Maybe that's why amazon is very successful.
The problem is how to deliver such information without saturating the user with "spam", but definetely that's the way to go, Ad-Sense and all that stuff. Advertising based on "knowledge" of each individual. CL

(i.e. if a legal firm, representing Linus sue these guys, get the money for the kernel project and until certain point really enforce the GPL)
I share your point in the last part. Personally I believe that the only hope for (currently) poor contries is to avoid piracy and satisfy their software needs with open source. If we don't do that we won't take off from the place we're now. We will fall in their game. They want us to be MS addicts, and then as soon as we get a little bit productive, they'll catch us (and our money of course). I use Linux because:
1) I don't want to produce with tools I've not paid for.
2) I need to become expert in OSS tools if I want to change corporate culture. So I must do what I preach.
3) the OSS model has many advantages if you want to start a business (you have help from all over the world, and also what you contribute help others).
4) Maybe the most important: It's fun!!
Conclusion: Latin America and other development countries should adopt the open source model, not because MS is not good software (that's not my point), but because it's our only chance to get in the game (it's the only thing we can pay now, and it's good).
I also would like to know more embedded projects that claim using linux to release their code. At this time the only ones I've heard of are linksys access points and the Motorola phone that's on sourceforge.
As a matter of fact I think PalmOne is loosing space also in not developing directly all the apps they have for win32, to *nix emvironment... there's a lot of market there, all the geeks and slashdotters are living propaganda... and influence points to insert the products in other places. It happens quite often when office people asks for advice to IT Managers and geeks for buying a new notebook or pda.
Well having Linux Integrated would bring all the advatages the Open Source has (and the disadvantages, but I thing they're less than the advantages).
In a few words... the'd have a roboust OS, with a big community developing it, and low costs.
Haven't hacked the Palm OS, but I've developed applications for PPC using eMbedded Visual Tools. and some embedded applications for different platforms using the GNU toolchain. I've not developed anything for PalmOS, BUT I've a clear perspective that's based in the comparison of being a power user of both platforms.
POINT No.1:
Almost all apps I use to have in PPC I've them now in Palm. Man... it's sad... the difference is huge in aspects such as graphical presentation, switching between apps, theme handling.
I conclude that the OS is not really a multi-tasking environment.
POINT No.2:
The filesystem. That approach of everything being a pdb man... my grandmother would have changed that since v3 of the OS!!!! On the other side PPC uses a simple FAT filesystem, any kid could upload an mp3 to the handheld. It's not that easy when you have to convert everything to a pdb format!!!

PPC is always ahead in hardware performance (I know that's not free, the point is that the OS is ahead in running on more roboust hardware).
As a matter of fact I used to have a PPC, but when I switched to linux, because of the lack of apps for PPC sync, I'd to move to palm. I bought a Kyocera 7135, which is an smartphone. Man... let me tell you... I'm a Linux Freak!! for sure! but palm has lost the race with MS in the handheld/smartphone market. Even with the new treo. MS is 1000 years ahead in the OS. I mean the OS sucks!!! Sony did a great job with their clie handhelds, I'm sure they had to rewrite the hole OS!!! If I'd be the owner of PalmOne, I'd try to make a mixture with embedded linux to improve their poor OS.
