  6. boring on Assassin's Creed And the Future of Sandbox Games · · Score: 4, Interesting

I find open ended games to bore me more than structured ones. I mean sure I get the new sword and the new shield and now I can goto another area, but I have no sense of progress. Instead I'll get bored and just give up, where as a game with a focus or several paths I can follow happily feeling I'm achieving stuff rather than just wandering blindly grinding to level up stuff.

  13. Re:My karma is so high that... on Wii Shortages Costing Nintendo 'A Billion' In Sales · · Score: 1

The DS gets more marketing in the UK than the Wii. I'd say it's 2/1 towards the DS on TV adverts. Nintendo sponsor the Friday night comedy slot on Channel 4, every 15 minutes 2 adverts for the Wii or DS play (one before and after the break). So it's not like the DS is unadvertised.

The problem is the DS isn't innovative any more, it's been sold on cute games like Nintendogs and learning games like Brain age, so it's aiming at the 'intelligent' and 'casual' side of the casual market, the Wii is aimed at the 'family' part of the casual market, it's difficult to match the two or link them (no casual will buy a DS to play a Wii game)

  15. Buzzlight year on Where are Wii? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Any one remember Buzz Lightyear and the Furbies?

Same shit every Christmas just with a different name. Kids want the same 'cool' toy, so mothers (and some times fathers, but usually mothers) turn up at Toys 'r' US at 3am every day waiting for the next shipment then end up in near fist fights over it. It's been going on for as many years as I can remember, the only difference is the cost of the wii is much greater than the cost of a Furby or Buzz Lightyear was.

But hey, I already have a Wii and want a 360 this year, so I'm quite happy to watch the same story over again, except this time it's on slashdot instead of the local news.

I started a wiki a few days ago about a Japanese game series, me and a bunch of fans are working to make a complete wiki of the game series to use as a later resource. We don't get any money, we're not elitest and we have no desire to do anything but make the best wiki we can to give information to the masses and help them play the games should they desire to.

I don't care if I stay in control or not, just as long as the wiki becomes the best resource it can I'm happy. So your theory goes out the window when you consider me. :)

I can't use HTML beyond linking images and text, because I really don't enjoy coding of any sort, it just doesn't work for how I process the world, I can't see all this text and picture how it works no matter how hard I try to do so, my brain just doesn't function that way.

Does it mean I'm some stupid subhuman or does it just mean you're being the stereo typical geek who thinks he's the greatest person on Earth because he knows the latest coding language? I've read a little of your journal here at Slashdot and some of your site, and honestly I think you need to try growing up a little more and being more careful with your view of other people. Just because I can't do HTML doesn't mean I'm some unpalatable idiot.

  20. Re:What is it? on PlayStation 2 Game ICO Violates the GPL · · Score: 2, Interesting

Funny because ICO is one of my favourite games ever. I found it kept the old puzzle game style (Easy puzzles with non-obvious solutions that you can do in a heart beat one you realise them) and a HUGE world to explore, where everything is polished and impressive.

ICO's "greatness" comes in that it just tries to be ICO, it's not some uber deep beat em up and it's not some impossible to finish puzzle game. It's just a sleepy little world where you explore and make your way out of the castle at your own pace. Some puzzles are damn hard, some puzzles are damn easy, but the point is that if you wanted you could easily just run around a room admiring the world as easy as you could play it like a speed run.

Maybe it doesn't appeal to the mainstream, but most my friends consider ICO to be a classic because it feels and plays like nothing else. The "vibe" the game gives off is easily one of the deepest and most impressive of all the games I've played in my 15 years of gaming.
