    How about making a robot with four legs. The foot on the bottom of each leg would be a wheel like this. Servos which control the attitude of the legs would also control the direction the wheel operates in.

    Yeah in fact I wonder about carbon dioxide in the coldest parts of Antarctica too. Wiki says it melts at -78 degrees C. I recall a weather station I was involved with managing reported -75 one day. I wonder if you get CO2 frost in conditions like that?

    Antarctica gets heaps of solid precipitation, to the point where any structure built on the ice will be buried in a few decades. But very little liquid rain.

    Makes me wonder if you could build a mechanical watch with the ability to integrate with a smart phone. It could have a little dial to show you your alerts (sms, mail).

    I don't think they are feeding in an image as such. Just individual signals from LEDs in the glasses. It seems to be customised to the visual system of the user. The glasses might have signals set up with the LEDs which mean surface directly ahead or movement in peripheral vision.

    Dunno, I once chucked an electrolytic cap into a fire. Not sure I want to see that happen with a capacitor which can power a state for an hour. Maybe nuclear power is preferred over that.

    Makes me wonder if the robots response is entirely realistic if the dentist starts to do serious, painful, damage to the mouth. BTW the book is much better than the film if you get a chance to read it.

    (robot tears itself away from the dentists chair and runs down the street bare footed, pursued by security staff).

    Admittedly more effort would need to be put into load and supply management with a large proportion of renewable power. Hydro power is a good candidate for filling gaps in supply. It can operate around the clock and it can be brought on line quickly. It can also be used to store energy with reasonable efficiency.

    Electric cars were invented before the electricity distribution grid. With no way to charge them the internal combustion engine became more popular.

    Fun, of course. The problem with this is that unless you take especial pleasure from being 'green', these cars aren't enjoyable.

    Some technically minded people will buy a car like this because of the geek factor.
