Privateers aren't going to be much fun for a miner, it will just make him a target.
Find a corp and join it. If they suck, find another. I went through 3 or 4 before I found the one I'm in now, and I've been with them for 6 months and am having a blast. If I'd stayed in empire screwing around, I would have missed 99% of what makes this game fun.
The absolutely worst part of the whole thing, imho, is that they tried to cover it up.
THEN, when one person refused to let that happen, he spent months digging information out of chat logs, web forums, etc. until he had actual hardcore evidence of the wrongdoing.
CCP then tried to shut him up.
Then the whole community got pissed off about it and made so much noise that CCP was finally forced to deal with it.
Then CCP banned the guy who found all the evidence from the game.
I agree, this precedent was definitely not set by Vanguard. I played Vendetta Online for a bit, and it had issues, and ws under constant development on a day-to-day basis. It added a very nice feel to the game.
ATITD had the feeling of being in regular development as well, although it was very stable.
Don't even get me STARTED on Eve Online... There are bugs affecting everyday gameplay that have existed pretty much since launch. Every patch breaks something that previously worked, and getting acknowledgement of the bugs from the devs is like pulling teeth.
These bugs have become so commonplace that they're now part of the game, and finding exploits and utilizing them is an arms race.
So yeah, Vanguard may have been pushed out early, but it's definitely not the first game to go through it.
Well, I originally got hook on Eve entirely because I wanted to test Cedega, and now I'm just another junkie.
I do have it running in Crossover on my Macbook Pro, but they really need to work out some speed issues in terms of graphics. The frame rate is playable, but not pleasant. So I use Boot Camp.
Transgaming will eventually release a full Cider client of Eve, though, and I will indeed rejoice.
Ah, thank you for posting this here, it *really* pisses me off that CCP is censoring this shit. I was hoping some of the censored threads would turn up here.
The potential for abuse is staggering, as are the allegations. But what pisses me off most is that we'll see nothing from CCP about it. There will be no punishment except perhaps a firing or two, and the in-game damage will never be repaired.
Like when RA was farming an exploit in which complex bosses were spawning every 50 seconds instead of every 500 seconds and generating 6billion isk a day from it. It completely screwed the entire south, and nothing was done other than eventually fixing the exploit when enough of us bitched about it.
CCP really needs a solid reality check. BoB is an unstoppable juggernaut as it is, they don't need help via these underhanded and frankly disheartening methods.
..it's related to the fact that many people who want to work from home have some understanding of Quality Of Life, and aren't career-driven drones who throw aside having an actual life to make a living.
I'm not in a huge push to advance my career, my salary has been cut in half so I can have a reasonable schedule without a beeper in my pocket and more time to spend with my wife and son. Working from home isn't always for those who are chasing a seat in the boardroom. If you need a "study" to tell you that, perhaps you need to choose a different career.
Viruses don't die. They don't get eradicated. We're supposed to get them, we're supposed to develop immune systems, and we're supposed to go on with our lives.
The more we vaccinate for a virus, the more virulent it becomes. The more people get vaccinated for flu strains, the stronger they get.
I can see vaccinations for hospital workers and the elderly, who are in real danger, but for the rest of us non-emergency people, we should just get sick and deal with it.
To me, and possibly to the writers, it isn't "hard" as in "difficult," it's "hard" as in "figuring out how to have fun."
I've made 3 attempts now over the years to get into it, and it just doesn't grab me at all. The UI doesn't lend itself to exploring fun things, it's more like "how the hell do I... Nope, that doesn't work."
The tutorial in Eve Online has been revamped 4 or 5 times now, and it is a great game for tthe new player now, despite the depth the game has. As of a couple of weeks ago, new players staart out at a level that used to take almost a month and a half to attain.
The point is, companies like CCP are spending time and money on improving the new user experience, and Lindtech doesn't seem interested in it, from my perspective. It could increase their user retention and greatly increase their revenue, but it's not a priority, it would seem.
Since when is water the only source of hydrogen? It makes up 75% of the mass of the known universe. It can be produced by plankton in large quantities, and countless means other than extraction from water. This argument is like saying that sand is a precious item, since refining cement sidewalks back into sand is expensive.
A couple of weeks ago a friend and I were barreling through the woods on quads when we bumped into a hunter, who was pissed that we had been tooling around frightening away his prey.
a) I felt good about that, and b) he was on a freaking quad himself. Was he hunting deaf deer?
Seriously, he was in full camo, on a motorized vehicle that could be heard for miles. WTF?
it almost seems that voice calls are the least-used function of most phones
Whenever you see "almost seems like" in an argument, you can replace it with "I have no data to support this." Voice calls the least-used function of most phones? Maybe in your circle of geek friends, but beyond the occasional Bejeweled and Tetris, the vast majority of people use their "mobile" phones to make voice calls.
Smartphones are such a tiny fraction of the market. Even the ubiquitous cameras on the phones today are often just conversation starters.
The Midway version doesn't have fire cannons either. I think the ultimate eversion was the PC version, which allowed 3-players, using keyboard, joystick and mouse. We were up all hours of the night playing it in my dorm room.
Depending on your personal level of ethics, it floats around as abandonware still.
I couldn't agree more. If the politicians want to push Mandatory Minimum Sentences for minor drug offenses, then I want Mandatory Minimums for political corruption.
Screw your constituency? Go to jail for a long time. Federal pound-em-in-the--ass prison.
It used 4 paddles, and each player had their own corner to defend, a la Breakout/Arkonoid.
It brought about some of the best inter-player fights, arguments and alliances I've ever seen, on par with Rampart (AWESOME multiplayer game, someone needs to make a new internet-capable version) and Bomberman.
The only problem is you need 4 paddles hooked up, and systems + paddles are getting hard to come by.
Money isn't all that, and there's a MAJOR factor missing in your information.... What are the overtme/crunch time/weekend situations like?
Being happy in your job is a major factor of leading a happy life. If you hate your job, odds are you're going to hate your life. If you have to work a lot of overtime and weekends, it can really make life suck.
One good way of dealing with this is insisting on comp time for overtime. Make sure your company knows that you expect a fair deal. If you have to work 8 hours on a Saturday, you should get a comp day. They're hiring you, not buying you.
Also, money isn't everything. BUT, if you are young, and the pay is really good, it can't hurt to put several years into making good money as long as you somehow invest it. I slaved away in a.com for 5 years, and some of them really sucked, but I dumped all of that money into my house. After 7 years I sold the house in the "perfect little suburban community" for a boatload more than I paid, and bought a cheap house, and I was able to put a huge chunk of money down on it, reducing my monthly mortgage payment.
Now I have a low-stress job with greatly reduced pay, but I also have much smaller financial needs, and I'm as happy as I can be.
While this will possibly one day be good news, the number of tests for pregnant mothers and babies is just astounding. It turns into a situation where pregnant women are told "you have a 1 in 4000 chance that your child has X," which creates a lot of worry and concern for what in 3,999 out of 4,000 cases is nothing.
Frequently, these tests are for things that can't be cured, or that have experimental cures that are sanctioned by the American Societies of Obstetrics/Pediatricians, but the treatment success rate isn't known, nor are the potential harms of a lot of the "cures."
I'm not belittling the science here, nor am I saying that this isn't a good thing, I'm just pointing out a human cost here -- the stress levels for tests and procedures during these stages of development are very high, and it is an extremely rare doctor who will/can admit that their procedures are experimental.
If you're pregnant or have a small child, do some research on the tests you'll be given. You'll be amazed at what you discover.
Where did it land?
Privateers aren't going to be much fun for a miner, it will just make him a target.

I love this reaction. Every parent since the beginning of humanity has asked their kid something like, "Why did you set fire to the couch?"
I can't tell you how many times my parents asked me why I did something, and finished the question with, "And don't tell me 'I don't know'."
"I don'tknow" is the ultimate stupid, meaningless answer.
The absolutely worst part of the whole thing, imho, is that they tried to cover it up.

Nice job, guys. Way to build trust.
Agreed. It was a mess for a while, now it is very stable and always running on my machine.
Or, just:
vi (built-in)
screen (built in)
apache (built-in)
ssh (built-in)
emacs (built-in)
and the list goes on.
It's my favorite *nix workstation. I don't wear an earring, drive a Jetta, or own a kayak, mountain bike or iPod.
iTerm is essential to me, tabbed terminals are something I can't live without.
Check out Quicksilver if you haven't yet, it's by Blacktree. I have no affiliation with them, but it's the bomb:
http://blacktree.com/
It's the greatest launcher ever...
http://blacktree.com/
It's like bash completion right in the GUI, just hit ctrl-spce, type a letter or two, and hit enter. I can't live without it anymore.
Right?
Seriously, this is a safeguard? So people can then hijack the plane without even needing to be on it.
What a plan.

Rampart, Rampart and Rampart.
Someone really needs to write a net-enabled version of it.
