that lets you feed your Pandora stuff into last.fm -- I haven't been able to test how it works on the last.fm side, I've always found it fairly annoying in the past, but I figured it was worth a shot.
Seriously, enough with this bullshit about the social networking sites being the holy grail, and how they're changing the face of society, usurping Google, etc.
This is an extreme case of assuming that your peer group represents the rest of the world. Not uncommon on Slashdot, but still.... Get over yourselves.
He's got a direct view on how sales go these days, and how prevalent piracy is. Count the seeds on the torrents, count the sales through the website.
Maybe he's just being extra defensive because he's paying for this out of his own pocket....
Asking people to not pirate his new venture is a far cry from beating his children. Just ask Bing Crosby.

This first CT is the BOMB. There are so many quotable riffs, and it's just... Well, it's just amazing that they exploded right out of the gate like this. Great, great riffing.
They are pretty well spread out around the country now, o getting together just to watch a movie isn't very practical. I know we all have the final scene from the last episode in our heads, where mike and the bots are still living together watching crappy movies from the couch, but real people have to make real money, and they had to move all over the place to do so.
I truly, truly hope that the fans will shell out the pittance for a completely artist-funded venture like this. There's no publishing company behind this, no big studio money, every penny on this came out of the artists' pockets and volunteer blood.
Very few things in this world would make me happier than seeing this Titanic take off.
I can vouch for Cerberus, it's a great product. Yes, there's a free version, but the full license is about $300, which is peanuts for a ticketing/crm system, and it is the best one I've used.
I've worked for companies that spent ludicrous amounts of money on ticketing systems, and I've always wished I could go back to Cerberus. I just left a job that used RT, and I hated it.
Now that you mention it, one thing that should set off the fraud alarm is the 4-6 weeks delivery time. That's a eon in terms of modern service, but a long enough time to collect a lot of orders before anyone expects to receive their product.
Hmmm.... I'm at 3 weeks already waiting for an Apple order....

The Glory Hole Amusement Park for kids is another winner.
Of course, I have to say that the "fake" music on the stations in GTA3 is FAR superior to the newer scheme of using real pop songs from the era. Whoever came up with the music for GTA3 should be given 5 or 6 radio stations in each game, it was the most impressive thing they've released imho.
If anyone in my Alliance in Eve has a problem, we have to file a petition. This is often akin to calling Dell customer support in India. I've known people with clear-cut issues who have had to wait over a month for a petitions response.
Then you have guys like the CEO whose corp was "infiltrated" by a CCP dev. He filed a petition to find out why a developer was a Director of his corporation. His petition was deleted. He filed another. It was also deleted.
BoB, on the other hand, can completely circumvent this whole system by simply chatting on MSN.
That shows with 100% clarity that we're not on a level playing field, and that this one alliance, which happens to be steamrolling over every other alliance in the game, has an unfair advantage.
It doesn't help that this Alliance has benefited from developer cheating before. It has been proven, and only after over 6 months of research and intense complaints from customers, did CCP finally admit to 1/10th of the allegations before they basically did absolutely nothing about it.
Yes, people are automatically looking for this kind of trouble. It doesn't help that CCP and BoB keep providing them with more fodder.
Ableton has been allowing musicians to use their laptops as instruments for years now. If you google around, you'll find whole bands of 4 or 5 people on stage jamming with Live.
It's a great product, there's a free demo, so check it out.
The process of proving prior art to the patent office will take far longer than Vonage can last.
Verizon is using this time sink to shut down competition, despite knowing their patents are bogus.
Basically, once the patent is proven worthless, what is left of Vonage needs to be able to sue Verizon for harassment, etc (iaobviouslynal) for abusing the patent system to cause predatorial harm.
There must be some evidence in the form of emails or memos within Verizon that prove they know this.
Seriously, this statement:
'We often fall back on the cultural catch all of the "ghost" while the reality is, in many ways, more profound.' "
What could be more profound than the spirit of the deceased lingering?

Seriously, the "Defenders of the American Way" are completely fucking with everything we were founded on.

SPREAD THE WORD
...that Variety is good. Keep mixing the gene pool, keep everything mixing as much as possible.
When that stops, trouble starts. It's that simple.
I find it hard to believe that IBM spent less than $1M on consolidating those 3900 servers onto 30 machines. It just doesn't seem possible.
They changed my original title on the submission, the summary made much more sense as "Joel and the Bots are back!"
Restarting IIS is a hell of a lot faster than starting up the game itself.
Running IIS against the same database that Eve itself runs on quite frankly scares the crap out of me.
Ever get the feeling you've been had?

...at least 2 months since this question was asked.
It amazes me the stuff that gets rejected vs the stuff that gets accepted over and over and over again.
Can we have another open-source cash-register thread tomorrow?

So I guess the 32k people logged on atm are imaginary.
..."The issue of corruption in EVE was MOST DEFINITELY NOT addressed in our interview with Magnus Bergsson at GDC."
Out of every 10 allegations made about misconduct, CCP ignores 9 and addresses the 1 least offensive one, then does nothing about it either.
This post should be up at the top.
