Oh this feature was in IE 5 for 98? I guess I never noticed it since I never upgraded from IE4 to IE5 while using 98. That's pretty spiff, yeah I saw the kde version, but I remember it being horribly bad at connecting to sites at the time. By the way, do you know by chance how to mount ftp sites as drives in windows 2000?;) I saw a lmhosts NT4 example a week ago but it didn't work for me for some reason
Yeah that would work if Linux came with the journaling file system _installed_ Last time I checked Redhat, Caldera, or whatnot were still using ext2. It's not "FUD" if it's true. Linux distributions do not come with a journaling filesystem installed
While I've always been a Netscape supporter, I must say that IE makes quite a nice file explorer. I've been using windows 2000 for a month or so and it really is quite a step up from the old windows explorer. The ability to preview images and movie/music files in the embedded media player is also a great bonus. Another interesting feature I've stumbled upon is that in Win2k ftp sites appear as regular explorer windows, dragging and dropping between your drives and a remote ftp site is now quite a cinch, and no third party is required, I can even do a chmod or relogin as another user. (Although I doubt it's able to "hammer" on a ftp site with repeated connections..also haven't tried resuming uploads/downloads) Netscape..netscape seems to be a lost cause. Besides the "Shop" button, I really haven't seen much of an upgrade since 4.5 and 4.7..or since 4.0 for that matter. I'm not sure where AOL is going with Netscape, my first thought was that they bought it just to kill it off, but such an idea is simply ludicrous, netscape was flopping already and wasting such a large amount of money just to kill a company would be a hard sell even to a black helicopter conspiracy theory subscriber;) I'd like to wean myself off netscape..but it'll be hard. Once you use something for several years it's hard to pick something else up in it's place. So I guess for now I'll stick to using Netscape as my browser and IE as my file explorer..until Netscape officially dies that is;)
Actually I've had X lock up to the point where I couldn't terminate the session or switch to a console. Machine locked up..end of story. Yeah I'll say that Win 9x more unstablle then X, it'd be a lie to say it's not. But throwing Windows NT in the same category is a mistake.
That's funny;) I have a kill command here in Windows NT/2000 also. Would you like it? Seriously I've been running Win2k for a month now, not a single crash, not a single blue screen. Maybe if I download 50 gigs of porn and half a dozen trojans from all the 37331 warez sites on a packard bell computer like all these whiners then it will BSOD.
Urgh..aren't they the crummy cheap motherboard with integrated stuff makers? A friend of mine has one of their boards..and while they're economical...eh... do those crystal audio chips even work with Linux? I think Corel would have better exposure if they went with a higher quality motherboard manufacturer
Do you really expect Intel to come out and say "Oh the Athlon is better then our p2/3 line" ? That would be like Linus making a public speech about the shortcomings of linux and not using words like "But we're working on it (tm)" "It'll be in the next release (tm)" Cyrix and AMD used to publish that their last generation processors were on "par" with Intel's offerings, what they didn't tell you was that there are no SMP boards for their offerings, their FPU stunk, etc etc. Such is the buisness world folks. There are no "innocents"
Yeah I also love the way they "proove" NT sucks by installing BO server on a NT system. As if you couldn't do the same thing with a linux trojan? Security is 25% patches, 75% brainwork. Don't install software from untrusted sources, that's the #1 rule of safe computing. Of course hordes of Linux kiddies will run forward and scream "We're smarter then NT kiddies, so we wouldn't do something this dumb"

take the number of news bits for say...a week, count the number of linux related newsbits and divide that by the total number of newsbits;) I'm sure you'll get 1/3 at the very least.
Well;) You can snicker down at him and call him "The devil" but you have to admit, the guy is a genius. To have amassed such a fortune in so a short time is impressive. The guy has been in the right place at the right time for quite a while. Yeah it's scary that Microsoft controls as much of the market as it does, but it's still impressive.
I see, so the answer is Linux is "good enough" Hell if humanity was pleased with that we'd still be huddling in a cave next to a fireplace. Yes the test was funded by Micorosft. Mindcraft does this sort of testing for customers, not for their own personal entertainment. If Linux advocates wanted to prove them wrong in a different scenario why not have Redhat or whomever hire them for a different test? Or is all Linux advocates can do is scream injustice and flame?
Okay, Linux advocates (and I say advocates _not_ flamers, as pretty much everyone screamed "Mindcraft is a Microsoft posterior region kisser yadda yadda" ) insulted Mindcraft's proffesionalism. What should've been their response? From reading over the situation Mindcraft _bent_ backwards to clarify that even though they might've not made all the right tunings, their results were still for the most part valid. They worked their ass off with the Linux community, invited them into the lab, repeated the test at _their own_ expense. The tests proved the end result, NT wins in that scenario, Linux looses. Were they given the least bit of thanks? Did anyone apologize to them? No. As this time around nobody could scream "Oh it was a rigged test, they made the linux machine look bad" everyone simply dismissed it. So what about Mindcraft? They were insulted, had to pay for the second test. And what did they have to show for it?
Why was it wrong of them to do this? Linux "zealots" made a direct insult to their proffesionalism. A direct slap in the face. In feudal times this would result in a duel would it not? Why is it that Linux advocates are allowed to flame anyone they please and get away with this? The Linux community wasn't "misrepresented" it _was_ represented. Until all this "M$$$$ Evil Empire yadda yadda, Linux is superior! OSS now or die!" garbage goes away _that_ is how linux will be represented. This is how the majority of Linux advocates act.
Evil Empire? Oh please;) Linux advocates have been "trouncing" Windows for years, who exactly is the great shining hero in this scenario? Linux? Give me a break.
Making a profit from leveraging shitty software onto people? Oh you must mean the $80 Redhat boxed sets. Yeah I'm a bit dissapointed in that also.
You mean like is Slashdot *obligated* to hype every Linux one? ;)
I'm willing to bet that at least one person in this forum will stand up and tie this to Microsoft somehow ;) "Oh yes! More FUD By the Evil Empire!"

Perhaps you should try both installers and notify me of what is different?
Yes well I guess I was expecting something innovative from redhat, they sure proved me wrong ;) Oh my first post got moderated down! Wohoo.

Much like 10 million would be wishful thinking from a Linux troll?
You have been GPLd..duh
It might not, but this does leave a backdoor for the assailant to walk into and exploit the system further
Actually I believe only a user with NT admin status can install BO2K as it requires access to the registry, as well as system files

He is a buisnessman genius, whether he can code is of small importance. It takes brains to play your cards right, otherwise we'd all be billionaires ;)

Whooptie doo ;) My NT doesn't crash either. Big deal. Windows sucks? Same can be said of Linux on many topics. Darn isn't life tough ;)
