On the first point - recompressing this would be a derived work, and you might want to keep control over the quality and completeness of your work.
On the second point - yes they have been a bit lax here.
This license is GPL for creative works. Now, full GPL is not really nice for an artist. If Davinci was around he wouldn't just sue, but physically maim and torture those who draw the monalisa with a spliff or a moustache on posters.
If you make an image or music, it is your 'baby' like Gary Larson put it.
Code is also like this, but there is less aesthetic, or even more appropriate, less [person opinion]. It either works better, or it doesn't. [let snot talk about interface design for a moment]
So we need a free license, open for creative works, text, music and art.
Stock art uses many licenses, that generally are not 'public domain'. This allows ANYTHING to happen, altered, non-altered, and you do not have to recognise copyright. They do keep copyright, but allow you do anything you want, royalty free (under open license).
Music - if you want, you could have a completely closed license. It is mine, but freely distribute unchanged. (no mention of payment, sep. issue)
Fine, this works for me, and many others. If you want a license that gives XYZ permissions, make them brutally clear, not suggested.
I would say either make it a stock like license, where you basically GPL it.
Now, what it says is, either distributed it UNMODIFIED, or use little bits in your own work, but your own work must be freely distributable UNMODIFIED or people can use small bits of your work.
mmmm. Maybe a GPL/LGPL choice needs to be made.
Either it is freely distributable unmodified, nothing else, or you can modify and distribute as much as you want however you want, giving the same right and license, OR you specify a metric for the modifiability of your work, and this metric is imposed on all other licenses [or not]
Work A says 10% maximum of it may be sampled. Work B uses 9% of work A. Since it never breaks A's license, B could say C,D,and E can use 100% of it as an input.
So by default, we could say sampling is 10%... but what about max 10% of a song as original material can be composed as maximum 10% of final derivative work.
{difficult for trancey songs with lots of identical repeats:-)
Now, then it would be possible for track C to break A's license by sampling track B under the more freely quantified license, and taking A's component and making it 50% of its content (it might be a shorter track)
Perhaps '%' of derivative work is important, but unwieldly.
This is important though, I think authors would like to give over such freedoms to fans [legally] to promote thier creativity.
OK I was dubious at the first well informed poster, now we have two well informed posters.

Has S Korea been jibing them about taking back the land?
Sorry - but what do they want? You cannot just say someone is a threat no matter how big thier gun is.
You have to assess motive, means *and* oppourtunity.

Of course, it is not as if when GWBush gets re-elected that suddenly N.Korea will have some unquantifiable threat to the world, and maybe even this report is S.Korea helping the US villify N.Korea (not saying they are deserved of any villification)

I cast us all in the same light. Again, read my other follow up - I didn't mean to state finger pointing - this was more of a reflex.
But what we should recognise is that China is looking at pollution control and efficiency, whilst ensuring they can bring higher quality of life to thier 1/2 of the planet.
Whereas we [as in EURO-US] are positioned to exert more control in what we do to the environment - which, if you look at it, we exeert quite a lot of control - in the wrong direction.
You only have to search/. for news of ice sheet research stations falling away. I merely correlated a story about shrinking ozone, bringing up china, and not looking at a broader picture (not the intent of the original grandparent either) and had my say, which I corrected as being over zealous:-)

Thanks for the links - will also try TV single player [I have the demo d/l'd]
I am not sure if I agree with you. I am not for taking away people right to smoke, and I wouldn't want to stop people smoking in bars.
I think places where you can smoke should have a license the same as places where you can drink.
If you think of a night out at a restaurant, two people, about 50-80 quid for a decent place, and >120 for something if you after a little better sex that night.
Now I would preffer to spend that money on a place where I know someone wouldn't smoke. Not necessarily because the thought of someone smoking in the same room is so offensive (if it is far enough away) but I agree with thier principles and support them (the food had better be good too:-) [and not to mention the activities later on!]
There are smoking free bars. Now I do agree with you - you should have the right to maintain a smoking environment in your bar. I believe that if public smoking bans come into effect [which I hope they do] then you may get more business from people wanting to dive into your den of addicts, and puff away.
A public smoking ban would reduce peoples tolerance for smoking - they would seek out non smoking areas, creating a boom in the niche for non-smoking places.
We might see total segregation, where smoking people have to sit at the back of the bus*, and eat at different places**:-)
*: This is a dichotomous joke - in the good ol' days, smoking on busses was allowed, in the back seats. In the bad old days, certain segregated peoples were made to sit at the back also. In these elightened times, we see none of this.
**: I am not actually suggesting we send smokers to different schools, but they will probably eat at different places, which maybe a valid parallel.

What if you are not in a place with Celine Dion areas and non-celine dion areas, but in a public place.
In areas that have not outlawed public smoking (for exactly the reasons I have given) people shoudl not enforce thier environment on you - I guess to some extent (if we are being tolerant) then if you sit somewhere and smoke (I mean, listen to celine dion) and pollute that area, then nothing is stopping me from moving on (unless it happens to be some public waiting area / path)
Bottom line - you do not try and step in someones personal space, so don't try and pollute someones personal environment, be thoughtful, and not selfish - and realise that you will be thought of better:-)
I loved the opriginal tribes. I never knew what the maps were, I always ended up on some wierd server where you could jump 10 miles high and bullets had the power of s uitcase nuke.
On normal server, the pulsing and fearful gameplay really had you hooked, if you didn't play as part of you team, the other would be able to ply thier way into your base, knocking out power and shields.
The flight mechanics were a little novel, but the terrain system was awesome.
My favourite moment was laser sniping from peak to peak, while a large battle of explosions clouded my view of the opposing snipers!
Did't quite beat a good old game of action quake 2 though...

Are you from the US? I don't want to bring up the US's recent history of culling all funds from environmental projects, and saying, lets fsck the world for our economy!
I am only saying this because it seems fine to shrug all the blame onto 'some country where there be dragons and suchlike' and go back to watching some hip crazy tv show.
that pre-installing Linux encouraged people to steal copies of Windows So much BS in this, I had to feed it through 3 times.
Iteration 1:
By not forcing people to pay for windows are OEM level, we are opening up a chance that they will aquire a copy without paying for it
Iteration 2:
We have been able to ensure people keep buying windows by changing the requrements so much, people upgrade [usually through a new system] and we catch them through OEM upgrades [aside: haha they don't even pay for an upgrade license!]. If people were able to sidestep our monopolistic OEM don't-sell-PC's-without-windows-or-we-kill-your-fi rstborn happy licensing program, they may try to aquire windows for free.
Iteration 3:
If people buy linux desktops, they might not even bother to pirate our software, and stick with linux, we are worried that by not forcing new computer owners to use windows, they may chose a different operating system. We are trying to use piracy as a lever, because our bestest friends at the RIAA made it sound so cool.
Piracy has nothing to do with iut, they are trying to legitimize the illegal manner in which they force people buying new systems [through mainstream vendors] to buy windows. They are loosing power on this, and realise that when companies see higher margins, they will sell PC's with an OS, the user will buy it, use it, and the worst thing, is never even know what windows is, or maybe was:-)
Aside from you very intimidating and macho reply to my expressed opinion... the problem is - if you pollute someone else environment *after* they have sat down, i.e. they have chosen an environment, and you start smoking and it drifts down wind, that person has every right to ask you to change your chosen seating, and if you are uncivilized enough to cause a fuss, no doubt this non-smoker will move.
So if you sit next to a non-smoker, and start smoking, do you say that they have no cause to call you up on what you are doing?
What if a person with a loud stereo sits next to you playing Celine Dion at volume 11.
Right, I think that is enough civil typing on my behalf, while we are on the topic of freedom of speech thought and action, if you took that tone of voice with me in person, I'd piss in your face.
[exaggerated comensation in macho department in a satirical rip off of you - lets face it - weak post]
Hahahahah it wasn't a no-pissing-in-your-face-section.
swearing in a public forum at strangers garners you so much respect - I guess you are used to respect in the real world, ass-hole.
Sorry I don't normally feed the trolls, and I am quite pro-smoking (as long as they don't make a cigarette that is good for you) but I am against people who refuse to act in a civil manner.
I think 'blogging' is now officially an overstretched term.
This is simply journalism, and I hope the quality and opinion they bring does something to increase signal to noise, unlike blogging in general which tends to decrease it, at least in terms of google.
I am not against blogging, only the missues of the word.
This is merely using an interface to publishing for journalistic / commentary purposes.
If blogging gets tagged onto every single convienient input, we won't ever ssh in or ftp anything - we will blog in securely, and blog that file over there, and blog a message to whats his face.
On the first point - recompressing this would be a derived work, and you might want to keep control over the quality and completeness of your work.

No offense. Just my 0.02EUR
that pre-installing Linux encouraged people to steal copies of Windows So much BS in this, I had to feed it through 3 times.
i rstborn happy licensing program, they may try to aquire windows for free.
:-)
Iteration 1:
By not forcing people to pay for windows are OEM level, we are opening up a chance that they will aquire a copy without paying for it
Iteration 2:
We have been able to ensure people keep buying windows by changing the requrements so much, people upgrade [usually through a new system] and we catch them through OEM upgrades [aside: haha they don't even pay for an upgrade license!]. If people were able to sidestep our monopolistic OEM don't-sell-PC's-without-windows-or-we-kill-your-f
They are loosing power on this, and realise that when companies see higher margins, they will sell PC's with an OS, the user will buy it, use it, and the worst thing, is never even know what windows is, or maybe was
Aside from you very intimidating and macho reply to my expressed opinion... the problem is - if you pollute someone else environment *after* they have sat down, i.e. they have chosen an environment, and you start smoking and it drifts down wind, that person has every right to ask you to change your chosen seating, and if you are uncivilized enough to cause a fuss, no doubt this non-smoker will move.
There are other forms of publishing.
I like to call them:
e-mail

IM
They save us from the deluge of pointless information most mortals generate.
If they want to spout veiws, do it in a directed way. Unfortunately search engines can contaminate easily.
You can't just *anyone* have an opinion! Gee, next thing you will be saying women should be allowed to vote... pah, as if...
Inflatable 'air bags' was my suggestion when I heard about this.
A couple of sports cars (trying not to get hit!) move around a zone of potential contact (they knew where it would land about)
as it gets closer, you know more about where it will be, the airbags auto inflate [exoplosively] when the probe is within 25 meters of the ground.
If it hits one the air is pushed out quickly, but slowly cushions its fall.
How is a helicopter going to 'snare it' with a better chance than a stunt driver just driving to the best location and inflating a huge crash bag?
I hope they remind you how dangerous this 'space' is... I wouldn't like this to be a manned operation I was reading about.
Lighter note, half way down the images it looks like they are making a mosiac in honour of the mission...
Did anyone else get that feeling, when reading about the stunt helicopters, that this would happen?
I mean, why even bother with the stunt helicopters... it was so probable that this would happen.
Calm down on the blogging!
