Please don't ever site Blizzard has making 'solid' titles in any argument in the gaming world for OR against something.

Blizzard old out a long long time ago. You speak affectionately about a company called VU (Vivendi Universal). This entity is all about the bottom line like any other large corporation.

Blizzard's success is one that is of pure dollars and zero sense. Their games are well, their games and their EULA and TOS will beat you over the head about how you are blessed to be playing their game and you will play it the way THEY want not the way you want.

Last time I checked corporations do not know how to mass reproduce fun which is where VU / Blizzard fail miserably.

They do retain an astounding and probably the largest fanboy base of any game publisher / developer on the planet though. I just do not understand how this is justified.

And now World of Warcraft doubles as a Trojan Horse.. incredible innovation for sure.

Nah - the last OS MS made was actually decent (and was for the end-user and not against them). So no, this is not business as usual.

I think they have already picked out a market for Vista - they just haven't started turning the soil just quite yet.

Yeah that's really the only draw back :( The moderator had a hate on for that post. I think he misinterpreted me. Thanks for the info on technology purchases Google has made. Blogger is definitely one and there is another as well (i'd have to look it up again). Cheers.

But this is too much to ignore.

    Attention Google: BUY TRILLIAN!

You will have cross chat platform compatibility for AIM, AOL, ICQ AND MSN (and even IRC). Take out what you don't need and put it into your GDS 'Sidebar'. Trillian is a really great tool that is under utilized (perhaps because is doesn't offer an interface that ist QUITE as easy to use as its competition. I think the folks out Google could easily hurdle this obstacle - I mean it's what put them on the map - Simplicity. If anything I think Google would be reluctant to do this because they are very immaculate when it comes to software / technology and I think there is a lot of pride at stake when deciding to keep a software project in-house rather than purchasing it.

Can anyone think of an exception (where Google has 'acquired' 3rd party tech)?

Also, for those who are not aware - Trillian Pro can also handle custom RSS feeds with the simply addition of a plugin (it can also be equipped with a spellchecker, Winamp - pop-up / playlist viewer, POP-3 mail checker (including gmail), weather, stocks and a ton of other features.

Getting more out of a program that you are already running (without gobbling up all your system resources) is a great way to go! It's also nice to not have to worry about whether you want / need to download and install the particular client software for each of these chat mediums just to communicate with 1 or 2 people.

Sorry to pitch Trillian so much, but I think IM is the really next step (for Google) and Trillian just makes the most sense given the 'functionality / feature rich delivery' that Google seems to be focused on.

  7. Game mechanics questions... on Ask Questions of the World of Warcraft Team · · Score: 1

1.) Why are flight paths seemingly randomly connect to each other? And why to fly South do I have to fly for 5-10 minutes in the opposite direction? Why aren't these routes more logical? 2.) Why can't druids use Entangle Roots / Nature's Grasp' indoors (NPC enemies can use these abilities in either environment)? Why are places that are 'outdoors' considered to be indoors (this also affects using a mount)? 3.) Why have some types of in-game communication (and equipment access, etc.) been disabled during death (corpse retrieval) and others not? Again a logic question. 4.) Another druid question. Druids are a versatile class that plays aspects of all others and has 3 streams of character building. Why do all the sets and set bonuses only cater to 2 of those streams (Feral and Restoration). In other words, why is there no set gear to help Balance druids (+dmg and +crit gear and reducing cast time of dmg spells, etc.)? 5.) Any plans for building a better (faster) travel system? I think many level 60 players grow tired of 10 minute flights when they are trying to help out other players. Thanks for addressing any / all of these questions and keep up the great work on the game.
