    I, too, use FLAC at all possible times, but transcoding to Vorbis for an MP3 player seems to work well for when space is tight and Rockbox is available.

    i do beleive that in most of europe where they have lower or no drinking age there are far fewer alcholics.

    This is especially true in places like Italia where kids are exposed to alcohol (mainly wine and soft liqueurs) at an early age as a part of meals. Children learn to drink responsibly far before they start driving or operating other dangerous machines, so we end up with far less alcohol-related problems.

    ODF is an ISO standard and unencumbered by patents. OpenXML is still somewhat restricted in its licensing, and it is encumbered by Microsoft patents. The only guarantee that the patents won't be used offensively is Microsoft's word (no pun intended).

    Is it really worth trolling over spelling errors? I'm sure there are as many Brits who can't spell correctly as there are Americans and other English-speaking dialects.

    NeoOffice is mainly OpenOffice customised to be a Mac OS X program (i.e. menus, appearance, short-cuts, etc.). I'm glad you like it as I do as well.

    You forgot to say "IANAL", because "copyright infringement" and "theft" have very different meanings. In fact, the word "theft" isn't even used in Title 17 (USC) except in one case dealing with theft of an album from a retailer. Since you have subscribed to the RIAA's propaganda, you obviously believe that theft and copyright infringement are interchangeable.

    Because coffee beans cannot be digitally copied, for one. Capitalism is just one answer to how limited goods should be distributed; when the goods are unlimited, why do they cost anything?

    Sorry to be pedantic, but you cite US Code like this: 17 USC 1008. If you didn't already notice, the section is prefixed with the chapter number. It's also easier to use Cornell Law's US Code search to directly link to code in question.

    He's talking about Starbucks and Caribou Coffee, both of which are quite ubiquitous in the city and suburbs. It's not rare to find more than one Starbucks in a single mall, for instance.

    Uncompressed digital video is also hugely huge. It's akin to a series of bitmap images, and even that would have to be an immense resolution to make up for an analogue to digital conversion.

    Nobody cares about Ogg my ass! Plenty of "normal" people use it, and more and more video games are starting to use Vorbis (partly due to saving money on the MP3 patent licensing fees). Vorbis has been proven to be of much higher quality than MP3 (usually found to be on par with AAC) in the same size of a file, and it's IMNSHO a much more awesome name than "MP3".

    You can mount /home with noexec, and that effectively disables running executables from your home directory. I personally don't do that, but it is possible.

    The costs aren't in Blender, but in other 3d animation programs like 3ds max (individual licenses cost around $3500), Maya, etc.

    Debian developers are supposed to (and tend to do so) check if their install works in a chroot with a base Debian install. If not, they need to fix the dependencies of the .deb, and try again. Once it works, it can be added to Sid. After that, maintaining said .deb is quite simple.

    Don't forget that if you're on a non-American airline (e.g. Lufthansa), you'll be offered far more liquer than you can probably handle. Well, they do offer rum and coke, wine, beer, and other non-liquers, but my point still stands: you can get piss-drunk on an airplane if you wish.
