Actually, I only own Windows because I have to have it to run certain other programs that I want to run. If I could, I certainly would get Windows off of my computer. Similarly, although I don't like President George W. Bush, I still live here. And if I were living in the Netherlands, I almost certainly would support the worst electable candidate in a place like that(since they seem to be a little smarter over there politically) over Bill Gates. There goes the next contestant.
I was thinking Warner, which doesn't put rootkits on its CDs but still sucks because it sues so many of its artists' fans for just posting lyrics, but that's another story.
But who actually makes the content? The artists. And there are those around the world.
The only package on Gentoo that takes anywhere near 28 hours to compile on my computer(900MHz Duron, not very good but not very bad either) is OpenOffice.org. Oh how I hate OO.o! And Perl is only good for ten-line regex scripts.:P
Muslims in America don't really gather in the streets in huge numbers. Nor in very many countries that actually have freedom of speech. The riots in France are so small that people living just a few hundred yards from them learned about it on TV. (It was only a couple of cars burning) Where there are big riots, these nations would be lucky to hear anything other than government propaganda. If there were a Christian theocracy, it would probably be different.
I see this on any discussion about filesharing. Congratulations, you just fell off the Pons Asinorum.
And although I'm conflicted on OSX piracy(not that OSX is that great a system technically--it uses Mach for crying out loud), the difference between music file-sharing and GPL infraction is simple.
In file-sharing, copyright law restricts the freedom of the file.
WRT the GPL, copyright law enhances the freedom of the file.
Oh, and I'll see your Tool and raise you the Offspring.
Look at the other post replying to mine, it gives my opinion better than I could. And all the other search engine companies turned over their records, their stock prices seem fine. And the thing about not providing services, that's a bit hypothetical and hard to argue. You'll have to do better than that to convince the enlightened that Google's actually evil.
Wait a minute, didn't Google try to not turn over their American records to the US government? They also don't give certain services in China because they'd have to stop respecting Chinese users' privacy to do so. Oh, sorry, what was that? I think your argument just fell down.
Locks keep lazy people honest where they wouldn't be so without the lock. To keep dishonest people honest, you need capabilities, and even those aren't perfect
The only single package I've had take more than 24 hours(on a 900MHz Duron system--we're not talking 486s here) was OpenOffice.org. And it provides a bin package for that reason--and it's still quite slow, packages for OpenOffice take a long time to install no matter what type they are. And the thing I like about Gentoo is that, for example, I don't need to have that annoying gtkspell thing emerged if I'm not going to use it with Gaim. A friend of mine commented on #linuxattack that a Gentoo system often takes less time to install and get going than a SuSE system because the Gentoo system doesn't have to install near as many packages, even though each individual package takes longer.
You have to trust the tinfoil and/or the wireless transmission detector :P

Who cares where it's assembled? Not your average consumer. Where it's designed is a bit more important. That's in California.
The design--which is what most people really care about when making purchasing choices--in California. The assembly in China.
I'd have to agree. I've seen so many people claim they're against some evil Slashdot groupthink that I know it can't exist.
One word for you. Firewall.

Crack Attack. But you have to play it on your PC.
No, Bush is flip and Kerry is flop, considering how Kerry's career flopped.
They give very centrist "liberals" a bit of airtime, but most of it is just Limbaugh and co.

Simple. The anti-/. fanatics are trolls. Digg doesn't have enough of a userbase for trolling yet.
I hated them when they killed Westwood.
Guys, it's a Markov chain. Hence the name, an anagram of "MarkovChain".

You mean only decent networks. "Major" in this case only means a lot of sheep watch it.
Ripple Effect == Bug in Instancing :)

Argentina. Bolivia. Both recently elected socialist leaders.
No, but the Shi'ite militias trained by the US police do. Just do a Google search for "Shiite militia".
