If you think about it, this could be a huge boost to Linux's popularity. Although most modern distros can autoprobe video card and monitor settings, sometimes you still have to put in your own values to get it working. The average user doesn't know or can't get easy access to those values. Because GL doesn't require the software to know the specific monitor or video card configuration, setting up X will be a snap, which could draw more users to Linux, because they would no longer have to deal with the old way of configuration.
I found out that, if you logged a pc into the network, using a username meant for a Mac, and if that Mac were not already logged in, it would completely screw up your priviledges, and let you do many things normally reserved for "Administrator".
My middle school was worse. By default, the computers have the admin account in the network login dialog after a reboot. Our network happened to be down one day and, out of curiosity, I tried logging on without a password, and it worked. I'll see about going back and using the account to run 98Lite. Heh heh heh...
I still have a Trio64V+ in my secondary PC...I think it was done shortly before they were bought out. The card gets ~0.35fps in GLQuakeII at 320x240. It runs Direct3D games reasonably well, though.
It will also be incredibly fast. I recently reinstalled Win95 on my spare machine (P166, 64MB ram), and it takes 18 seconds to start up, 1.5 or so to shut down. Application loading is instantaneous.
On Newegg, you can get a 6800 for ~$280.

If they get the clustered graphics in time. Hell, we could put Doom 3 in software rendering on this.
Wow...emacs does everything...it even emulates Microsoft software by taking up 3x the space it should!
THIS close to fp! why must there be nothing for me to see here?!
It comes with Radiant, which is a very functional (and novice-firendly) editor.
