    If they're corrupt enough to fuck their shareholders like that, I wonder what other lengths they're willing to sink to. Eg., I wonder if any of the anti-virus vendors actually create viruses themselves, so they can get one up on the competition by having the virus definitions already complete.

    I'm not making any accusations, of course, just food for thought. But, with all the corruption in corporate America these days, I'd actually be surprised if something like that hasn't taken place in at least one of the major firms.

    You are conflating two completely seperate things, though the religious always claim one comes from the other. Morals are a result of social and biological evolution, not religion. Most animals have their own unique moral behavior. Many animals, especially those closely related to us, exhibit moral behavior very closely resembling our own.

    You dumbass. The premise of the book was supposed to be based on facts that Brown "researched." He explains it in the fore/afterward. He believed that the Priory was real. He should have been a little more skeptical of his sources.

    When The Da Vinci Code started gaining popularity, I read so many comments about how well researched the book was, which is quite funny, considering the whole premise of the book is based on a less than 50 year old prank. Not to mention one of the paintings featured in the book not even being in the Louvre, and a myriad of other factual errors he makes.

    That's a great idea to start with. I'd like even more control though. I'd like to be able to subscribe to specific shows. Really, I only watch a handful of shows. Lost, CSI(only the original, not the newer Miami and NY bullshit), Law and Order, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and reruns of The Simpsons and Seinfield, the few shows my wife watches.

    Pilots, series, and / or season openers could be free to get people hooked on a show.

    Hell, I think that'd probably significantly increase the quality of programming too.

    A normal Encyclopedia's usefullness is directly proportionate to the wisdon of the writer. Wikipedia's usefulness is directly proportionate to the intelligence of the reader.

    That is, perhaps one of, if not *the*, most insightful comments I've read regarding Wikipedia.

    I do not consider myself to be highly intelligent, either, so don't think this is some elitist reasoning. I honestly think that people who are incapable of seeing the usefulness of Wikipedia are either completely ignorant of the process and have not used it enough, or they are just plain stupid.

    Besides, people far more intelligent than 99% of the people commenting about Wikipedia lately, consult and even contribute to Wikipedia on a regular basis. How's that shit taste, fuckers?

    The only person who I can honestly say shows any integrity on the matter is Jimmy Wales, as he's not sinking to the pathetic level of his critics.

    The fact is, it _doesn't_ have the necessary "stabalizers" for standing on its side. In the vertical position, it is far too easy for the disc to come into contact with the laser, scratching the disc, and potentially damaging the laser.

    Granted, it would have to be bumped for that to happen, except on defective units. Still, not very well designed.

    But don't take my word for it. There's mods to prevent disc scratching people are posting on major Xbox sites.

    They left out next-gen DVD capability. If they hadn't shoved the 360 out the door, they could have included a much better, next-gen DVD drive. Also, with a console that begs to be stood up on its side, they really should have gone with a slot loading drive. Even the Revolution is supposed to have a slot loading drive. Oh well, not like I need a 360, I have a high-end PC and never liked Halo.

    And that's fine with me. It was expensive to buy all three consoles this generation, not to mention how much space they take up.

    I can't give, or vice versa, someone else my plane ticket. I am, theoretically, no longer entitled to counsel, or any hearing whatsoever, if I am arrested on suspicion of terrorist activity. I can no longer visit various sites in DC. I can no longer peacefully protest near the RNC, except in designated "free speech zones." I am no longer free from search and seizure without a warrant or probable cause - that's a big one, you can be arrested for not submitting to random searches in many places.

    But what *I* can and cannot is *NOT* the point. The point is what the government can and cannot do. Government powers are reaching far beyond the bounds set forth in the Constitution.

    You're telling us that, if noone complains, it's not unconstitutional. If I can't see it, is the Constitution there and not there at the same time.

    No, you're full of shit. Something is unconstitutional because it violates the Constitutional. You take it to the Supreme Court to prove that. But not ever case gets heard, for a myriad of different reasons, dirty politics sometimes being a reason. And the Supreme Court, AFAIK, generally does not hear cases brought by people who do not have a personal greivance. It's hard for someone to bring a case to the court, when they are denied counsel, etc.

    There was a story recently about research being stopped due to patents. Not just an isolated incident, either. It was on /., and I believe it even made the mainstream media.

    You have not really addressed any of the grievances I illustrated. People all over the world are dying of diseases, such as aids, that don't have to die, but they do, because charitable companies are barred from manufacturing drugs for them at their own expense, by companies weilding patents. Governments brave enough are beginning to stand up to this and refuse to respect the patents that are getting in the way of saving lives.

    Microsoft has already exhausted at least one appeal in the Eolas case. Tens of millions of dollars have been wasted in court, an astronomical figure for any non megacorp. By the time it's settled, everyone will be worse off for it. So far, Microsoft has gained no ground, and is already working on implementing the necessary workarounds. Eolas is not interested in licensing the "technology" to Microsoft. The web is very likely to be made the worse for it, at the expense of tens of millions of people. Also, putting something I didn't even say in quotes is disengenuous, to say the least.

    You can be calm in manner, (dis - yeah, quoting something I didn't say is pretty vile, worse than my calling you names, you fuck)courteous in speech, but at the end of the day, you are the one supporting an egregious system, and in doing so, quite frankly, you have blood on your hands. It is just as uncivilized a system as any that causes mass suffering and even death, no need to even consider how bad it's fucking up the computer industry.
