Uhh my last stack of 100 8x DVDs... $33CAN. So it would cost me . a Canadian about $6.60 a week for your backup. Dood I was here for DAT drives... you have no idea do you?

Still I'll bite. I run Linux because windose is slow and does not do video well. Also my Opteron 165 really likes Linux and NUMA. At 2.6G it is an absolute killer machine.
My son's W2K on almost the same hardware, 3000+ Venice is the only real difference, wont take more that a mild overclock, XP is much better but that Venice did 2.7G on my Slamd64 setup cool and stable.
VDR kicks the crap out of satellite on windose, really, and I can run multiple Brooktree driven cards... impossible in windose.
Just a few examples of the superiority of the Lunix religion. BTW what advanced tech can your pitiful excuse for an OS do that I can't, access Itunes easily?;).

It is a CAM card they are talking about. CAM 'Conditional Access Module'.
You can get DVB pci and usb cards in 3 flavors. DVB-T DVB-C and DVB-S. That is Terrestial, or over the air, Cable and Satellite. You can get cards for at least C and S that either come with or connect to CAMs, hardware decrypters, that generally take a card.
There is another way. SoftCAM which is software decryption and works well at least with satellite cards. It breaks the encryption by suppling an appropriate key when required and works well on NAGRA 1 and 2.
Google is your friend.

Hey folks the cable guys get their content off the satellites. You can too. Nagra 1 and 2 are broken and the other systems are largly broken too.
Cost me about $280 canadian. I'm not sure it was wise, I have 800+ channels of US TV and the only thing worth watching was Puppy Bowl 2. I may just sell my setup as I had not counted on quite as much pure garbage.

Children there is no real need to be so angry. Pantone is the way most professional printing gets done. When the ink meets the mag it's Pantone colors almost exclusivly.
Photoshop final output can be Pantone complient, because they have licensed the color scheme. Gimp output is 24 bit (total) and one could come close but Pantone rules the commercial world.
Of course CMYK is not Pantone but Pantone is a printing color scheme and CMKY is for printing only, well in the digital world anyway, and Photoshop has a huge advantage if it's output prints transparently.
Photoshop weenies are users and should be accorded the respect and consideration given to users. They do pay the bills after all.

Here is the deal. If you love computers you end up enjoying "hacking the hardware". It is really the bottom line, getting the hardware to do what you want it to do. So really... who cares with a printing app. It's not like it's all that hard to do, getting a printer to print. Although that is the reason RMS lost it and created Free Software.
It is an experience windose users will never know. It is not trivial to get hardware you have no handle on to do what you want.
The photoshop - gimp thing is kinda dumb. You need 4 color printing and Pantone complient colors you pay for the Pantone license. If not you are probably a fool to pay for something you don't need.
PenGun '
Do What Now ???... Standards and Practices !
CMYK is just the inverse of RGB. The only reason it's a problem is that photoshop uses Pantone and it's a standard print standard and most colors that are printed are defined by it.
This is the lever the established print world uses to make applications that do not subscribe to the Pantone color scheme useless. Only in the print world does this apply and that's why the Gimp does so well in web applications.
The morons that claim anything that is not Photoshop is too wierd for them are just that... morons.
Indeed what we've all been waiting for, a 3D Gl accelerated xterm. I can't imagine the profound effect this will have on my kernel compiles (2.6.15 as we speak).

BenQ DW-1640... probably the best DVD burner widely available. Flash your firmware fool.
I have a Plextor 740 because it is the same hardware. Stock firmware is fairly crappy, flashed to latest Plextor firmware 1.01 not bad. Flashed to the latest BenQ 1640 firmware it rocks hard.
All burners _need_ to be kept up to date with firmware. The difference can be amazing.
