  1. Re:Easy, rebrand firefox on Will Google Launch A Browser? · · Score: 1

I think it would be in everyone's best interest (except Microsoft) if Google invested money into Firefox and get the Firefox developers to integrate an official Googlebar into the browser. This way, Google doesn't need to spend an enormous amount of time on making their own browser, and at the same time, tap into an already-existing userbase.

On my personal page, which is mostly non-tech-oriented, I am getting the following numbers from a free stat site:

    97% MSIE 6.0
    1% Firefox 0.9.2
    1% MSIE 5.01
    1% MSIE 5.5

I even have a section on my site to urge users to switch to Firefox. So, overall, I think there is an increase in Firefox usage, but I don't think that Firefox aggregate usage has risen over 10%. I think if Yahoo did a count, it would be a more accurate representation of the aggregate market.

This topic is a perfect place to talk about my self-made security system. It is not very high-tech, but it doesn't require any money. All it needs is a little thought and innovation -- only people like us can concoct something similar.

I've been living by myself in a big house for a while, and it is a little scary to think that my house will get broken into and/or that I will be killed during my sleep. If I am going to die, I want to see who my killer was, and how I die.

So, what do I have to protect myself? Well, I have some martial arts training, and I always have two 24 inch sticks near my bed-side. At night, in small areas, being able to use a stick effectively will give me a higher chance of survival even if the burglar has a gun. Now, you might ask how I am able to wake myself up when someone breaks in? Here is what I do:

First thing to remember is that the more deterent there exists, the less likely your house will be targetted. On the doors, place a chair at a angle and wedge the shoulder-rest of the chair against the door nob. The first reason to jam the door with a chair is to make it act as a deterent. The second reason is that it will make loud noises as the door as opened. As the door is forced to open, the chair starts skidding, and there will be a point where the chair completely falls to the ground. The sound has two functions, it is to scare off some burglars, and it serves to wake you up at night. When you are awake and you hear a loud sound coming from the front or back door, it is time to call police or you can hide and hit the burglar before he hits you.

There are many other ways to protect yourself. You just have to think about how to make intruders produce more sound to scare them off and wake you up.

Actually, yes, I have. Read my experience here. Have you?

It seems like you are comparing a bipedal creature with a four-legged creature or a machine with a huge height advantage. Although I agree with you that the current state of technology might not be adeqaute for a bipedal to defeat a wedge, I can guarantee that if you drive a wedge (of the same weeight class) after a human in a random environment, I can guarantee that the human will be able to defeat it. All the wedge can do is run after the human with a sawblade, the human can climb, push objects, and basically use his environment to his advantage. Taking advantage of a smaller turning radius, a human can out-flank a vehicle and win (though he might not have all his limbs after the battle).

I have considered a battle between a wedge and a bipedal robot when I posted, and what you said is true . . . for now. At the same weight class, a bipedal robot can crouch down and turn over the wedge, or crouch into a defensive mode until the wedge runs out of batteries then proceed to attack, these are just some strategies amoungst numerous other means of defense. Surely, if a huge wedge was driving towards a human, he can find numerous ways to defend himself. This concept is what makes bipedal robot battles more interesting. It contains more strategies than the monotonous wedge-battles that only consist of repetitive and continuous rammings.

This contest is so much more interesting than the American 'wedge' contests. Instead of seeing wedges-with-wheels pushing each other back and forth, we might actually be seeing some advances in robotic combat involving bipedal maneuverability, advance artificial intelligence, and innovative motor control.
