Seriously though, it's funny how the British government (among others), can find tens of billions, if not trillions, of dollars to bail out private businesses who are failing due to the incompetence of those running those businesses yet, it can't find a few meager thousands of dollars to repair one building who helped save its own hide.

Just goes to show where priorities lie.

He didn't let me fucking surf to Slashdot whenever I wanted even though I got my fucking work done. What a fucking moron." You think you'll get hired because of your shining use of the English language?

One of the funniest examples of this was, and I'm ashamed to say I watched a minute or two, was that show where guys are taught how to pick up girls by an "expert" (don't know the name of the show). There was one guy who was classified as socially unaware, meaning he had no idea his language offended pretty much everyone around him, including the women he was hitting on.

They showed a tape of him trying to talk to women at the bar and yup, there it was. Pretty much every third word. To say he got the cold shoulder from every woman he talked to would be an understatement. The "expert" showed the tape and called him out on it.

As far as the woman is concerned, thanks for playing now run along. Mixing plaid and stripes is a no-no.

  3. My two cents on Supreme Court To Rule On TV Censorship · · Score: 1

Ya know what, I'm hardly a prude and I can swear enough to make a marine blush, but there are such things as class and couth. If one feels it's acceptable to resort to crude language because they think it's cool or they're being edgy or rebelling against the man, they are sadly mistaken.

Here's a recent cell phone call I was forced to overhear through my bedroom window at around 2:30 in the morning:

"Where the fuck are you? What? Fucking, what are you saying? I can't fucking hear you! No, I didn't say that fucker. Fuck off!"

That just oozes class and civility and yet, I'm sure this woman (in the loosest sense) wondered why she is continually treated like crap by whoever it was on the other end of the conversation.

It's about appropriateness. I'm sure Diddly Squat thought he was pushing the envelope when he was on stage and had the opportunity to impress upon the youngins in the crowd and in tv land, his mastery of language and how undeniably on the cusp of everything he is, but guess what. The shin biter from the ghetto hears him say it during some pathetic awards ceremony and the next day, there he is, talking to his teacher or the cab driver or someone telling them what a bunch of fucking idiots they are. This same person will then later complain that they aren't given any respect and because they're not white, it's the man wantin to keep him down.

While hardly a classic movie, "Kate and Leopold" has what, to me at least, is a memorable line which pretty much sums up why one need not resort to cursing or swearing simply for the sake of doing so:

"Some feel that to court a woman in one's employ is nothing more than a serpentine effort to transform a lady into a whore."

People complain about how annoying everyone but themselves are yet fail to realize they create their own environment.

True, except that Central Park was specifically set aside as an open space because those in the upper echelon of society were trying to create something along the lines of London and Parisian parks so New York would be recognized on the international scene. It wasn't an altruistic creation in the strictest sense. Regardless, it certainly provides an outlet for the masses.

The few smaller parks I've visited, Sara Delano Roosevelt being the most recent, are nice diversions from the concrete, steel and marble of the rest of the city.

Then you have places such as Tudor City with their own mini parks which are supported by the people themselves, rather than the taxpayers.

I'm not saying New York doesn't have open space. All I'm saying is compared to where I live, where I drive by acre upon acre of forests and open fields, New York is pretty much a wasteland. That said, our township commissioners are doing their best to cut down all the remaining trees and pave over every blade of grass all in the name of development. This, among many others, is a classic example of why we need to keep the rainforests around for as long as possible. Who knows what other goodies are lying in wait for some curious scientist to find?

If people think that clear-cutting forests and losing what lies within is a good thing, go to Manhattan to see why this is not a trend that should be continued*.

Add in the documented cases from around the country where votes were simply "lost", and you don't need an academic to tell you you need a verifiable paper trail, not the assurance of a company, that votes will be recorded correctly.

It's funny how you get a paper trail to prove your purchases at the grocery/drug/clothes/whatever store, but people are fighting tooth-and-nail NOT to have a paper trail when it comes to recording votes.

The simplest solution is to use an electronic machine for people to select their choices but at the end, provide a sheet with all their votes recorded which they deposit in a box. The machine votes are recorded but you have a paper trail in case electronic votes are "lost".

Yes Keith, I am aware of your leftward bent. Yes Keith, we understand you like pointing out how my party has its head up its ass and can't seem to understand why a vast majority of people hate it so much. We get it.

I do enjoy his breaking bear news, Oddball and of course, his top 3 worst people of the day.

Why don't I watch Fox? If I wanted psychics and sob stories about how our soldiers have been maimed occupying Iraq and how we have to support them no matter what, I'd watch Fox. If I want to see something other than a deliberate spin job, I go to CNN (not MSNBC). At least with their Headlines News section I can see what else is happening in the world. At least until Nancy Grace goes on her tirades and Glenn Beck also delves into psychics.

I even watch the BBC in the morning while I have breakfast but also flip around between them, CNN (both channels), CNBC and Bloomberg.

And no, I don't watch Chris Matthews.

The reason Fox has high ratings is because of their spin. Since they don't report real news but instead act as the White House proxy propaganda minister, they can get away with blatant errors as someone above pointed out (calling a Republican a Democrat on several occasions). They continue to harp on Bill Clinton as if he is somehow responsible for the cliffdiving financial markets, rising oil prices and teen pregnancy (ok, maybe the last one). For all intents and purposes, Fox is a tabloid show on par with Entertainment Tonight.

The people who generally watch Fox don't want to think. They want to be spoonfed what they want to hear. The same with Rush. People just ditto him because he says what they want to hear but when you take a close look at what he says, it falls apart. But people don't want to hear that. All they want is an overweight, drug-using, possible pedophile rant about how evil women are, how men are always getting the short end of the stick and how Democrats/ACLU (who defended him btw)/liberals/et al are in cahoots with Satan to bring down America, never mentioning that it's been his party who has sabotaged this country's financial system, who have gutted the Constitution and who continue to preach less government yet at the same time want to control the private lives of people.

These are the same people who had to be told that the cover of a book on which Bill O'Reilly's face appeared wasn't approved by Bill or that the makers of The Simpsons couldn't do another spoof news crawl because it would confuse their viewers.

So yes, I will harp on Fox and their hatchet "news" jobs. Remember, these are the same people who went to court so they could lie about news stories. Don't believe me? On February 14, 2003, the Florida Second District Court of Appeals ruled there is no rule against distorting or falsifying news in the U.S.

What dirty tricks you say? The fact that people can register and vote on the same day for a one-week period. Now, as Fox spins it, this opens the door for fraudulent voting and other dirty tricks since there was a big push to register voters and have them vote on the same day.

Mind you, Fox didn't say word one when the head of Diebold made his infamous statement because after all, that wasn't a dirty trick nor even the appearance of a dirty trick.
