    Since this would be a highly specialized Version of Knoppix it should be possible to shrink it so far that it would fit on a credit card size CD.

    It's not censorship. They specifically say that it's a "resource for politically left people". So you know what to expect when downloading their content. If you want no political slanting, don't use their service, that's all there is to say.

    AFAIK there never was an initiative to outlaw the protocol itself.

    It's a non-issue since most non-techie users don't read the documentation anyway.

    One thing I noticed is that people *hate* to read in general, and they certainly make no exceptions for technical docs.

    Now if you would include a DVD that tells them about the most important stuff about their distro, that would propably work.

    MAC addresses need to be broadcast. Also they can easily be spoofed.
    So yes, you understand this correctly.

    Nevertheless this will allow a potential attacker to gain root access by taking advantage of a local exploit. So this effectively turns any (or at least some) local security bug that might be sitting on your machine into a remote root exploit.

    Q: Can I use these cards after July 1st 2005? A: Yes you can use them, they are "grandfathered" into the new regulations. It will always be completely legal to use them. The card ignores the copy right bit and if a show has this bit enabled, the card doesn't care and will save the stream in full quality anyway.

    And even if you don't want others to see that there are services running on your host there are better solutions. e.g. sending a special string to some UDP port.

    Sounds interesting. Is there an implementation of this scheme already available?
