What's the problem? If you read it a little more thoroughly you would see that they don't give any credit with the free classes. It doesn't hurt the paying students or lower the value of the actual degrees that paying students receive. I'm severely physically disabled and was unable to finish my EE degree back in 1993 because of health reasons. I doubt I'll ever go back to school. This is a great chance for me to at least finish educating myself, degree or no degree.

To be honest I am not sure anymore. All I know is you have (or used to) one year to get a full patent after publishing it in public. After a year it would be public domain and nobody can patent it. It might not be like that now and I am not a lawyer.

  4. First to File on House Passes Patent Overhaul Bill · · Score: 5, Interesting

As a small inventor, I hated the idea of First to File because I was worried that corrupt individuals or companies could quickly patent my invention submissions. But that is easily solved by requiring a NDA before showing anyone your invention. Before, when it was First to Invent, there were more problems. For example, I could patent something and someone could claim they invented it first and manufacture fake logs or a fake journal showing they invented it first. Also don't forget, false witnesses who could swear up and down they saw the other guy working on the invention for years. Now I am in favor of the new way. I can protect my ideas easily by just keeping my mouth shut until I fill out a provisional patent application. I think it will be good for the little guy.

  5. I hope youn never try Kopi Luwak coffee! on What is Your Favorite Way to Make Coffee? · · Score: 1, Informative

Kopi Luwak is coffee made by palm civets (furry little Indosian mammals) by eating the coffee berries and pooping out the undigested beans. The beans are collected by the locals and then sold after being washed. This coffee can sell for up to $600/lb, according to wikipedia. Personally I can do without this stuff, no matter how good it is supposed to taste. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak

I agree 100%. I think ICANN can easily give all the people who run porn sites on .com or .net tld's a resonable deadline (1 year?) to move their sites over to .xxx, and assuming that their domain doesn't have a raunchy domain name they could keep the domain for non-porn uses. For example whitehouse.com could exist both as whitehouse.xxx and whitehouse.com as along as the .com counterpart didn't have porn or link to porn.

  9. What about physically disabled gamers? on Controversial StarForce Copy Protection Creators Quizzed · · Score: 1

I am sick of copy protection schemes. I'm 32 years old and diagnosed with a severe neuro-muscular disease (Beckers Muscular Dystrophy) and use a power wheelchair for my mobility and ventilator to breathe (I kinda wish I sounded like Vader though). I need 24 hour nursing care. I use the on-screen keyboard that comes with win2k to type. Now my disability sucks a whole lot and gaming is some of my only enjoyment, besides movies and sci-fi novels. It sucks big-time having to ask my nurse to change cd's for me all the time. This draconian protection scheme really messes things up for the disabled by preventing us from using virtual cd mounting programs like Alcohol. I don't want to have to ask for help to just to play a game. I need help with everything else; I deserve some independence on my pc, at least. These companies never think about us. Why should they? Physically disabled people belong to a tiny minority.
