Reconsider your strategy when dealing with Tech Support.
As far as they care - 1) You/don't/ run Linux. Only Windows XP with the latest and greatest service packs. 2) You/don't/ only have one computer where the problem manifests itself. In fact you have 10 - you're a small business. 3) The problem/doesn't/ occasionally happen. It happens all the time.
Basically [- a) Tell them you conform to hw/sw requirements so that they actually help you instead of hanging up. b) Over-exaggerate the problem.
Yawn... *another* iPod and iTunes killer? Maybe I am missing something here... but doesn't the PSP use some proprietary optical disk technology as well as some rendition of the memory stick? This doesn't exactly compare well to 4-40GB of versatile harddrive USB/firewire attached storage.
Then don't use PythonGTK. Sheesh. It's not like you don't have any other options available. Use WxWidgets (or whatever they are called now) or, *gack*, native win32 stuff in your python code. No problemo.
That said... VB is a really really really horrible "language." I've had to deal with it, unfortunately. Might as well use Brainf*ck - at least it's consistent.:-/
...doesn't really matter. Unless the system you want to embed it in has only (max!) 8MB, 386, floppy and tiny IDE/XT disk, and no network. Oh... and I guess you'll be using extfs or minixfs too (no ext2 here). Have fun!.
That said... I *have* run a minimalistic hacked-together system based on kernel 2.2 on an IBM PS/2 m55 (386SX, 60MB ESDI, 2.9MB RAM, Floppy).
Ha haha hahaha. As a freshman in college who "followed his age group to college", I severely doubt my social life could take "a huge hit," simply because it doesn't exist.
Yes, the signal is duhbviously compressed using the GSM codec or something akin to that - but if the signal never reaches the mic, that's a problem. And it's certainly a problem for me - whenever I forget I am dealing with a POS Motorola phone I constantly hear "Andy, I can't hear you." Great.
Pssssh, so what. I have an IBM PS/2 m50 (286 10Mhz) with PC DOS.... that I use as a monitor stand. Seriously, the It department at your school must have way too much time on their hands if they are willing to support obsolete systems that have been long EOLed.
"Wireless expertise" my arse.
I have a Motorola phone, unfortunately. I have an i60 (an iDEN phone), which is a formidable brick, which by now is about two years old. Naturally, had my service provider been anything OTHER than Nextel, I would be using something likely top-of-line, but this is Nextel... and I don't want to cough up dough simply to upgrade to another unstable and buggy Motorola contraption.
Some bugs with the actual software of the phone...
Inability to correctly switch cells. Holy shit, batman. It's a "CELL" phone, yet it can't even do *this* right. Everytime I board my Metra train home, I *have* to turn the phone off and back on in order to get a 100% signal, else its near 0%. Checking information gleaned from the diagnostidc mode reveals that the problem is caused by the phone's whatever lack of desire to switch to a nearer tower. Ridiculous.
Occasional lack of missed call and voice mail notification when coming back in range. SOmetimes these notification just simply never appear... sometimes they arrive a couple of hours *after* my phone is in range. Dumb.
Occasional missed rings. Is this really so terribly hard? Is there any reason why the phone occasionally fails to ring/vibrate?
Physical defects and horrible design.
The phone power adapter plug. This one gave out on me after 4 months. Taking the plug apart - the culprit was a cold solder joint. Go figure. Well, I resoldered it.
The phone must have been designed for midgets. I am 18 years old and hardly a giant. Unless you're mashing the phone hard against your cheek there is no way in hell your mouth will be on the level of the microphone. This is terribly annoying.
Nickel-and-diming by Motorola/Nextel: Want to use a cradle? Better get a different power supply, since the one that comes with the phone will be rejected. Service issues: Nextel has got to be the only vell provider with 100% reception in the middle of a freaking corn field (Illinois Math and Sci Academy, Aurora, IL) and 0% reception in the middle of a bustling metropolis. (Chicago, IL).
(about turning away people from hospitals)
No, we simply turn away paying *citizens* who don't have enough insurance, while somehow managing to provide free healthcare to illegal 'immigrants' (what a joke).
DogDude may espouse a message that is politically incorrect and offensive to the irrational and the mentally unstable, yet has a valid point. Why mod something flaimbait simply because you disagree?
May I recommend you to look at JHymn and the Hymn project, in general? These will strip the DRM from your files (and your files only, btw). Since they only perform the decryption and do not re-encode anything (the output is an unprotected AAC file, m4a), there is no loss in quality:-))))

Fine. He didn't know Perl. Maybe he didn't even know *of* Perl or wasn't sure. Then why did he authoritatively reply?

When I want to imagine a nice healthy pair of breasts, I prefer to imagine them without a sweater. =P

Not everything in iTMS is 128Kbps. A recemt acquisition of mine was 271Kbps.
RFC stands for "Requests for Comments," btw.
By 2015 we'll have really neat tech. By 2215 I don't care - I'll be dead anyways.
I feel royally dumb.
DAmn damn damn, I feel like an idiot. I didn't look at your /. ID when I posted that, James.

Ummm recompile xpdf to get rid of that "feature," then.
Cheap? Not with Nextel. Better cough up some dough if you want a new model of another poorly and cheaply designed Motorola contraption.

Interesting, it could be that your lockups are caused by the input device driver... what kind of mouse is it? (Manufacturer)

*cough* (e)grep is for /text/ files. What about, say, searching within jpeg, png, mpeg or aac metadata?
Then stop using your X windows and start using the X Window Environment. (note lack of 's' at the end of 'Window').
Sorry, I don't mean to be an ass, but it's the little details that make or break an intelligent discussion.
What is your video card/driver setup? Input device information? Does the problem disappear when Xinerama is not on?

Sure, it lets you find files. (so does find, but slower). What about looking inside files?
Didn't know that, thanks.
