  1. Does Remote CD work with copy-protected CDs? on Apple Announces MacBook Air · · Score: 1

I wonder if Remote CD works with copy-protected CDs. Even though for Mac OS/X there are no CDs with built-in copy-protection (to the best of my knowledge) I wonder how this works with copy-protected CDs with Windows applications...

Do you have any material to back up the claim that they want to sell licensed third party applications? I think the reason why third party applications are not allowed is that unlocking the phone would be too easy -- that is running an application like anySIM.

The hardest part to hack the phone is simply to gain full access into its system.

  3. Re:Overheating with new models? on Apple Unveils MacBook Pro with Core 2 Duo · · Score: 1

According to the advertisement of the Core 2 Duo the processor is more suitable for mobile technology because it is more power efficient. I wonder if this also fixes the heating issues, since less power usually implies less heat.

  4. Re:if the story is true then the xbox is illegal on Microsoft Loses $126 Per Unit on XBox 360 · · Score: 1

These laws are there to prevent monopolies. It is only big companies that sit on lots of cash that can sell their products with a loss. In effect other (smaller) companies that do not have the cash to sell with loss have a competetive disadvantage over the "big sharks" that can do this. Hence, I think such laws are quite reasonable because otherwise no other companies can ever enter this market anymore!

  5. if the story is true then the xbox is illegal on Microsoft Loses $126 Per Unit on XBox 360 · · Score: 1
Here in Belgium (and perhaps in other European countries as well?) it is illegal to sell products with a loss. I wonder if this means that Microsoft will sell the Xbox at a more expensive price in these countries.

What is also not clear to me is if they compared retail prices of the components or the manufacturers prices, because if they used the former it would not imply that Microsoft is really losing money, because the profit margins on retail components differ a lot.

  7. Re:Risky Business on Another Theory on Apple's Move To Intel · · Score: 1

Having an Intel architecture for their Powerbooks/iBooks also has the added advantage that people who do not want to separate from their Windows software will be able to run Windows on the flashy Powerbook hardware. After all Apple gains most profits from its hardware, so with the Intel architecture its notebook segment will have a broader market (Mac OS/X / Linux / Windows).

  8. Essentially already done. on Skype-Ready Phones From Motorola · · Score: 3, Informative

Anyone with a PocketPC Phone Edition with WiFi capability, such as the Qtek 9090 or the HP IPAQ h6315, can already do this, because Skype has a version available for download for the PocketPC. A more interesting question is: What will phone operators do who provide mobile flat-fee internet packages (I heard some are already doing this in the U.S.A.), since phoning with Skype becomes free then any place any time where you have a GSM signal. I am not sure if the bandwidth available with GPRS is enough for Skype to run smoothly (does anyone know this?), however UMTS (a broadband version of GPRS is coming soon).

  9. Security in Mac OS/X Tiger on 'Opener' Malware Targets OS X · · Score: 3, Insightful

I do not think this could be classified as a virus. I am concerned however with the next release of Mac OS/X. It seems to contain a new feature that is integrated throughout the system called "Automator". It allows users to easily create and run scripts that perform cross-application batch-jobs. I wonder how it is integrated with mail and if it could pose a security risk in the same way Visual Basic Scripts do in Windows...
