Hmm, I worked there for about 4 years. I found this piece to be simplistic at best.
True, some of the software developed at Yahoo in the late 90's was lame and yes, Yahoo can't decide whether to be a media company or a tech company. Both are symptoms of leadership failure, not a root cause.

1:1 upload does not mean the whole file was uploaded, only 'that number of bytes' were uploaded.
BitTorrent uploads by picking blocks at random. Consider this: how many rolls of a 6-sided die do you need until all 6 sides are expected to show up? In the general case, something like N log N.
So for a 700 piece file, uploading ratio of 2.8 to 1 is more like it and even then, that is only the expected value.
A tab width convention for a programming editor is all well and good but... How do you convince all the other tools (that one might use to view source code) that tab == 4? Sometimes, you have to view source in a debugger that thinks tabs are 8 spaces. Ever had to view an html or js file in Notepad?
Y2K spending made lots of companies see the start of hockey stick earnings charts. Followed by over investment. Then in mid-2000, spending dried up... Another side-effect of the Y2K effect is synchronization of the hardware/software upgrade cycle. E.g. people upgraded earlier than they would have normally, creating an earning trough after Y2K was over.
The 'popup' at the Hidustan Times link does not create a new browser window. The popup content is displayed on top of the html content using a CSS layer.

MSAS is not ready for prime time though it has potential. The UI is visually pleasing (though navigation has bumps), the scanner is fast.
I installed MSAS on a Win2K machine. It found a piece of spyware but recommended leaving it there:-(. In addition, it complained about a registry entry made by SpyBot immunization. Finally, I noticed the machine was running slowly so I shut MSAS down (basically turned off the real time protection). It still wakes up at night and scans the machine though.
On an infested WinXP machine, after MSAS was done, Spybot caught some spyware related stuff and then AdAware caught some more.
I have used Thunderbird for several months with one of my mail boxes. It leaves about 10% of the spam sent in the inbox. The amount varies over time as spammers try different techniques.
Yahoo does a much better job, IMO. The spam that gets through to my inbox is less than 1% and the volume of spam sent to that address has dropped dramatically. Not sure why. Could be that Yahoo is dropping obvious spam before it gets to my mail box.
I did the same experiment early last summer. After 6 months, the number of spam emails I get did not change. On the other hand, it does not hurt to use the unsubscribe links.
Some things I noticed: o) a small percentage of spam emails have no unsubscribe link o) many spam emails purporting to be from different companies have idential email removal pages. Me thinks spammers are using tool kits. o) About 1/3 of the unsubscribe links don't work. Either the link is bogus or some error occurs when when the form is submitted.
For the guitarists in the crowd, think of each row of keys as a guitar string. Pretend you are playing a lick. Left hand fretting and if you want to get fancy, mix in right hand plucking. What you then remember it the lick (and where you place your fingers to start).
Re: "Do doctors hang out with other doctors or do they seek out the sick"
This nicely sums up the problem I have with christianity: The presumption that the non-christians are damaged and must be fixed.
Don't need or want your sympathy.
Job security for lawyers?

No more spyware? Let a 15-yr old use your computer for a few days. Even with anti-spy running, stuff happens.

Imagine being a single /.er for 900 years...
WinPatrol does a reasonable job at notifying the user when critical system settings are changed...and it is free.
