I like Cube, but it's a slower game, and more oriented to single player as far as i've tried it (never played it online; all servers i've found are outside my country and ping kills me). However, it has nice (yet basic, a bit cartoony, but quite likeable IMHO) graphics and an interesting engine which lets you do things like editing levels while playing the game.

Nexuiz is quite more fast paced; think of it being Quake 3 and Cube being Serious Sam, and you'll get a basic idea. It boils down to personal taste :) The downloadeable clips give a good idea of how Nexuiz plays, IMHO.

Flash, on the other hand, keeps trying to use ESD; on my system (ALSA with the dMix plugin), the Flash plugin will refuse to play sound if anything else is playing at the time - every other program manages to do it just fine.

And yes, it doesn't seem able to play a clip over 30 seconds long without losing audio/video sync.

I have an Athlon 1800+ with 512mb. I'm running, right now:

    - XFCE 4.2 with 4 desktops
    - Opera 7.54u2 with about 15 tabs
    - Beep Media player
    - Gaim, 4 accounts
    - aMule
    - Several console sessions and GVIM windows
    - Assorted sevices (Samba, SSHd, Apache, etc)
    - GKrellm2

The system is consistently responsive and snappy, and Gkrellm reports 305Mb free (without swap pages), with 0% of the swap partition used. I know FF is quite more memory hungry than Opera, but still, there's no need for 1Gb of memory to run a desktop comfortably.

The newest MD players actually play mp3s but they wrap them in some drm.

I know, but as i posted before in a similar discusion: too little too late. It's a shame, because it's the usual story with Sony: top notch products encumbered by retarded lock-in's.
Besides the need to reencode constantly, i really liked it. It ran for over 10hs with a single 1200mAh AA battery charge, was virtually shockproof, had a lot of options and sounded damn fine. The thing is, for the same price i sold it i got a MP3 player which:

    a) holds 6 times at much music as a single MD,
    b) sounds damn good aswell (i was very surprised by this - kudos to MSI),
    c) has FM radio with 10 programable presets and records from it,
    d) is completely solid state - AAA rechargeables last forever,
    e) i can plug to my PC via USB or record from a line in, and
    f) can also record from a built-in mic. 512mb worth of mid quality .wav files. I used the MD to record some classes and even there the MP3 stick player is MUCH more comfortable.

What's the status on those CPUs? IIRC, i've only seen them available on notebooks. If VIA pushed a line of desktop computers using 2GHz chips at 20w and price them below comparable offerings from AMD/Intel, they could make a killing in the entry desktop market.

    I'd surely buy one.

Drop KDE/GNOME. They have both become too bloated for everyday use. There's a lot of excellent "lightweight" desktop enviroments and window managers: i reccomend XFCE (4.2.2). It's like Gnome after 6 months of workout and strict diet.

I sold my MD player a while ago and bought myself a MSI 512mb MP3 player. I grew sick of having to reencode my music to shitty ATRAC3.

Come on, i know ATX power supplies are limited in size, but i have an "el-cheapo" Chinese 300w PSU which works like a charm and it's much better designed and built. It looks cool, and it seems that it's very good at regulating the output voltages, but you can get that elsewhere without the glitz. No mention of it's price either.

To be honest, i wouldn't want that powering my PC.
