That's an interesting point. Much like what would Jesus think of the modern organized religions and the feuding between them.
I would think that with the importance east asia places on philosophy, that they wouldn't be so easily swayed by censorship. I suppose that they are no more immune to their media, and the subtle brainwashing that goes with it, than we are to ours.
There may be a DVD torrent of the Song of the South floating around. I remember burning a copy for my friend a few years ago, watching it and not really getting why it was band. If I remember correctly, there was an animation in the extras that was somewhat dubious, but that could have been easily trimmed.
So if all of Slashdot promises to give you eye contact and slow down whenever you have the appearance of darting in front of us and are looking in the right direction, you'll stop hitting that damn button? Or one of us could just run over you and problem is solved. Really, those lights are there for a reason, why not use them when you have to. If it's a low traffic area, then just cross whenever you want.
If the thermostats are anything like what we have where I work, they are connected, but as far as I can tell they are either incorrectly installed, or misconfigured. I blame contractors who are paid by the job, quickly disappear, and either don't know or don't care about how it's supposed to be done.
From my experience most accidents are due to distracted, impaired, unskilled drivers or skilled drivers exceeding safe speeds for the conditions. A well programmed AI would take out the driver skill variable and should make the car's safety equal to all but the best drivers -- much like a computerized chess AI is better than all but the best humans.
I was just assuming that he already had a comparable non-3D tv. Granted, he could probably sell the current tv for some $500, making the 3D tv effectively $1500. Note, however, that he would also need to buy a 3D blueray player, and possibly a new stereo receiver that can handle hdmi 1.4a (or whatever the 3d spec is).
Thanks to this article and some of the comments, I've discovered that you can get a replacement rear glass (or a plastic version) for under $30 via ebay, and it's an easy 2-screws replacement. This does bring me a lot of peace of mind.
How did your friends and coworkers get their phones repaired? Did they do it themselves, or just get replacements?
p.s. The lady who I just saw today with a broken phone screen admitted that she dropped it four times, and I didn't ask what distances or surfaces. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the iphone 4 with no plastic body to flex and absorb shock would fare less well than other phones. This iPhone is the solidest little device I've ever seen, and that shock has to go somewhere.
No protective cover of any sort and I just carry my iphone 4 in my front pocket. It's in as-new shape after 2 or so months. I also have coworkers with all kinds of other phones, and I've seen a few with shattered screens. I'd say your anecdote is just random chance.
You really use a 21" monitor? Unless it's a crt, I've never even heard of such a size screen. I'm curious as to its model and resolution. As far as what I spent, it is fairly extravagant, but I spend a fair amount of time at my computer, and it's worth having a nice experience while I'm at it. To make up for it, I drive a 15 year old car which saves me enough in car payments and insurance to buy several such monitors every year.
I'm glad you're happy with your 27" at what, 1920x1200 resolution? That 27" is displaying 2,304,000 pixels. The 30" displays 4,096,000 pixels. That's about 78% more screen real estate. Really, if I could have found a decent 24" when my old 1920x1200 died, I would have, but like the original poster, I can't stand the new 16:9 ratio monitors, and using the size of a 27" for the content of a 24" is wasteful to me. As for the cost, I remember spending over $1200 on a 25MHz 486, so $1000 for a very nice monitor that I (hopefully) won't be replacing any time soon doesn't faze me. I'm also still enjoying my $250 Klipsch Promedia v2.400 speakers I bought some 10 years ago -- probably the best computer purchase I've ever made.
A year or so ago, I picked up a Dell 30" monitor with 2560x1600 resolution. It pretty much solves all of your monitor issues. The only concern, is that you need a video card capable of dual-link dvi output (Nearly all recent gaming cards).
Oh really, what paid expansion to Doom did you actually buy? Or are you talking about buying the actual game after playing the first 5 or so levels that they let you play for free? Same goes for Quake and Quake II. Not sure about the others.
Do [English Teachers] believe that the aim of teaching English is to increase the exact and beautiful use of the language? Or that it is to inculcate and augment patriotism? Or that it is to diminish sorrow in the home? Or that it has some other end, cultural, economic, or military? [...]...it was [English teachers'] verdict by a solemn referendum that the principal objective in teaching English was to make good spellers, and that after that came the breeding of good capitalizers. [...]...pedagogy in the United States is fast descending to the estate of a childish necromancy, and that the worst idiots, even among pedagogues, are the teachers of English. It is positively dreadful to think that the young of the American species are exposed day in and day out to the contamination of such dark minds. What can be expected of education that is carried on in the very sewers of the intellect? How can morons teach anything that is worth knowing?
The number of people who choose to walk in the street instead of on the sidewalks where I live is truly astonishing. Several times I've had pedestrians cross right in front of me while they've had a red light. I'm certain that most of these casualties are due to people just being idiots and randomly wandering onto the street without a care in the world, and that the walkman is a trivial, if non-zero, factor in comparison.
Yes, I saw that "ensure there is no collusion between husband and wife", but I really don't understand it. If the annulment is disadvantageous to one party as another poster seems to indicate, then why would they be colluding?

I'll admit doctor's don't make "a lot of money" when they drive 15 year old cars and live in the ghetto like I do. Everything is relative.

I was thinking the same thing. Clothing, or a simple blanket would also raise temperatures.

Why stop at 18. Shouldn't you spy on them to prevent suicides (or whatever reason you deem sufficient) for the rest of their lives?
I was about to write about how Windows XP Mode only works on certain processors, but apparently Microsoft has patched this: http://blogs.technet.com/b/windows_vpc/archive/2010/03/19/windows-virtual-pc-and-windows-xp-mode-no-longer-require-hav-processors.aspx

Bills only matter if people actually pay them. You really think they have the few thousands on hand fighting the fire would have cost?

Same here. My big-screen is only on for the occasional Netflix rental.
You seriously planned in 26 vacations/year into your "comfortable" standard of living? Man am I jealous. I'm lucky if I can afford one vacation/year.

I consider FOX more a tragedy.
Thank you! This explanation finally makes sense to me.

Don't these prosecutors have better things to do than try to keep people who want a divorce together by law?
