The question is, do the creators deliberately make them addictive? I know that there is some argument that Gambling institutions do, by making them noisy, give free food and drinks (so your body doesn't have an excuse to leave) and having lots of flashing lights.
Is there even a difference between making a game enjoyable to play to some people (easy to get learn, fun to continue) and addictive to others?
Asked about Ms. Arnold, an AOL spokesman, Andrew Weinstein, reiterated the companys position that the data release was a mistake. We apologize specifically to her, he said. There is not a whole lot we can do.
What a load... there is plenty you can do AOL. You can promise not to release this data again, you can actively hunt for it on the web. You can promise to delete your copy. You can promise that you won't keep data like this anymore. You can implement better security policies so that you know where your data is, and what is hapenning with it. You can limit the people who have access to posting stuff on your website.
The world is not this simple. It is not black or white. Analogy are fine for helping to describe something, or explain something, but not for judging whether something is right or wrong.
That is why we have judges in a court of law, because there are a number of ways of interpreting the law as well as criminal actions.
You comparison of a police car on fire, to the rape of a 12 year old girl are so different, that it disgusting of you to even try to compare them. It cheapens the whole debate. Might as well bring in Nazis concentration camps as well.
Yes, at least one of those reporters/writers/photographers screwed up.
This should be the real issue here, not the bombing of Lebanon. Why is the media ignoring this - who cares if people are dying, somebody is being lied too!
The world may seem like shit, but for many of us, it's coming along nicely, thankyouverymuch, and we will insist on continuing our work toward a goal armed with optimism and hope instead of brandishing our cynicism about like a cheap flag, or worse, using it to malign those who disagree with us instead of addressing their opposing point of view.
Wow, do you really feel like that? How can you possibly describe the way the world is heading in a good way? Maybe I am looking at things wrong, I would love you to point out some optimism for me!
You have to take into account how popular MySpace will be in a year or two? Will they still be number one. I would not bet yes, but google seems to be.
Of course I am willing to admit that, at this point, they probably know a little bit more about the business than I do!
You have to ask yourself this question: Are you the exception?
Sure, a lot of people talk about how p2p has turned them onto new bands, and maybe if the Music companies had got into the net early enough, they would have been great tools. But so many people dl heaps of tracks, and never buy anything.
You are a DJ, you are the exception wrt Music stores, you can't download LPs, can ya?
This is what I thought might be happening, but the Music store operator is at a huge disadvantage. When you are able to download music, how can the store hope to cope with the huge array of music online?
Sure, there still is a market (albeit small) for LPs, but I can't see CDs holding on in the same way.
Your last statement sums up my belief: So imho the guy needs to re-invent himself or close the doors...
Heh, I just asked a question. Strung a little tight, aren't we?
I haven't bought a cd for years, and haven't bought a player for a lot longer. People keep trying to give me old cd players. Nobody I know owns a portable cd player. Maybe I am out of touch, in with the wrong crowd, my head in the sand, but I thought that they were gone. They are definately on the way out.
From the article: The DVD would include a music album that plays in both stereo and surround-sound on a standard DVD player -- plus video footage that plays on a DVD player or a computer. There will also be song remixes, ring tones, photos and other digital extras that can be accessed on a computer.
If it is reasonably priced, people may actually like it. Does anybody still use a cd player anyway?
What really does this offer the consumer? Does he actually include anything extra on the DVDs?
I kinda feel sorry for the guy how owned the two music stores, but he became complacent and should have got out a while ago. If there is any room for small players in the music store business, there won't be soon. How can you compete with the online retailers?
Exactly, that is why I said most sensible people would install a real os. The majority can't see a way past Windows. (or, to be fair, maybe they just have more things to do than worry about what OS they are running)
Sony is facing a struggle over its PlayStation 3, with critics concerned about the processor and the price. Jack Schofield reports on the next stage in the console wars.
This is taken from the guardian newspaper. I don't think it took much surfing to find a negative view about Sony's PS3. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it is not just a slashdot slant (as with most things), there are a lot of people who don't like what has happened. The only one with a slant, it would seem, is you.
Maybe that is the way it would start. Then they would start replacing window backgrounds, and your browser defaults. You would no longer be able to search google, it would intercept it. Maybe a small strip on the left of the page would always be adds, which would slowly get bigger and more distracting. You would try to make the window bigger, and scroll that past the screen edge, but they would have thought of that.
Could get really insidious, at which time most sensible people would install a real os.
Religious people have some of the weirdest morals that I have ever come across. Most are more concerned with what their priest tells them every week on how to act, than actually thinking about things for themselves.
If get enough pictures, each with a different piece of skin showing, the software will sow them altogether removing her clothes completely. (I imagine it to work similar to the software that removes tourists from pictures of statues)
Some people just don't care that much about their TV. My TV cost me £10, and I won't be buying a new one until that baby breaks. It show the difference between DVD and video, but we still keep buying the odd Video for a quid, and haven't bought a DVD fro 4 months. Just don't care! (except that in a few years, DVDs will be really cheap.)

Well, they could do something, rather than nothing. Maybe they could even to anything, which is also better than nothing.
They can look for people hosting the data, which I have seen, and send the cease and desist letters.
They can make the data illegal to look at and play around with.
They can tell media outlets that they will send in the lawyers to people who use this data.

Useless bastards!
"60 single men"
At her age. I think she should be happy with a couple, but 60... gotta admire her!

The goggles, zey do nothink!

There is a few extras, that might actually appeal to the pre-teen crowd, for some more picture from their favourite boy band/idol stars.
Blah, I say. A waste. If I want music, then I want music, and I can download that!

The writing is on the wall.
One of the great things about America, anyone can become president.
One of the biggest problems with America, anyone can become president.
Or as Adlai Stevenson put it: "In America, anyone can become president. That's one of the risks you take."

No, he means this girl!
Just wait til you see the upgraded core duo twins...

Mate, it ain't over til the fat lady sings, and last I heard she had a hacking cough and won't even be leaving her bedroom for the next few months!
....Sony's initial mastering software did not support the use of the more advanced codecs.
Keep it clean, Please don't talk about Sony software. Shudder.
