There is no law saying you can't think about what you are going to say, before you start talking to someone. Think about the point you want to make, think about reasons supporting your decision, and think about possible detractions for your decision and responses to them. This is something you should do, whenever you need to make a case.
And if someone comes in to see you to talk about something important, just pretend that the phone rang, and you will get back to them later.
You know you need a reason to go out and do something, not a reason not to go out and do something. People need a reason to go out and get Vista, can you supply us with any? Is it much better than XP.
There are people out there who like something, not because it is better, but because it is new.
This reminds me of over a decade ago when we all rushed to get Windows 95
You know, i don't understand why people ran out to get Windows 95, perhaps you can explain that one to me? Was it all the marketing hype? Did you truly expect it to be completely different to Windows 3.1? Could you just not wait to play with the control panel, and the new version of Paint?
What the poster is saying that it doesn't really cost anymore to have 100 boxes on the shelf, than it does to have 500, so they are encouraging shops to take lots of boxes rather than a few, in the hopes they will create massive displays. This is marketing 101.
I wonder what Microsofts hurry is, they now that they will dominate, most people aren't going to but a new PC without Vista, so why not just wait? Microsoft knows that they are sitting on a gold mine.
Ok, so the real difference between his dream phone, and your dream phone is that yours exists, and there about 30 different models to choose from, and his doesn't exist.
You might as well have said, my dream computer is one with x86, a keyboard, and a flat screen monitor.
It is so that you can read email, and listen to music at the same time (at least, according to the PC World adds, the leading UK pc seller). I wonder how people used their computers before core duos?
Indeed. Seems to me this is a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
Yes, this would be apt, if one hand was a giant, all ecompassing hand that controls almost everything, and the left hand was a miniscule part of the other hand, employed by the other hand, and in the situation where almost all content produced is owned by the other hand. Yes, then this would be apt. What Steve personally wants, has very little do sway in what Viacom wants, and it probably shouldn't.
I really think there is a problem when media companies get so big, I hope that governments in the US and Europe do something about this, it is not good for anyone.
Holding all my data on 10 discs as opposed to 100 sounds like heaven.
Is that really your idea of heaven. You seem to have some really misplaced values if you think having 10 discs instead of 100 is a really huge improvement. Why not just buy another harddrive, a HDD is fine for personal backup solutions, and then you only have 1 drive to get excited about.
release the most original stuff of their career (King Crimson, for example, whome are nearing their 40th anniversary)
Hard to belive that the most original stuff of their career is not the first album, because as there career gos, that must have been pretty original (by definition).
Have reread the grandparent post, and he has not said anything wrong. He said it will be playing in England soon, which is correct. He is still allowed to call it England, just because it will be playing in Scotland and Wales doesn't mean he has to refer to it as playing in UK.
And don't be too hard on the poster, even people here in the UK have problems with telling the different between Britain, UK, British Isles, England, and they have no excuse.
Maybe I am an old fool, (it has been said before), but i don't like the new dr who, and definately not the new torchwood. I like the characters of doctor who, I liked the two latest doctors, but I did not find the story lines particularly good. Am I alone (I seem to be alone in the UK), but the lines are not very complex. Maybe they never were, but I remember them being quite good.
You are really stupid. There is a huge indie movement, consisting of the old style of creating music (people who really enjoy music, get into a band, and start writing songs and performing). The simple fact is, the majority of people don't like that, and want something else. People who want "good music" have many avenues to go out and find it, they can go to plenty of live music venues, and even pick up cheap CDs right after the event. Don't blame the RIAA because most people don't like the same music that you do, blame the masses or blame yourself.
Ok, thanks for the extra information, my rant was misplaced. I am having a bit of trouble with my current workplace, it seems the people who used to work here (and one who still does), put up with a lot of shit, included being treated badly and asked to do a lot of support as well as development (this was not spelt out in the interview). I won't put up with the same level of shit that they do, I have made my position clear to management, and am currently leaving this position for a much better position (at my old workplace).
Wow, once again you have missed the points. This isn't about tags and metadata, it is about producing a coherent, agreed upon method for tagging all data. So that we can build this awareness into search engines. This is currently what is lacking, to tags.
You are clearly an imbecile, and want to hold onto your limited understanding of this subject, rather than expand your mind. Congratulations, you have reached the bottom of the gene people. Reality TV awaits!
Yes, because that is the way the world works. You know, if the people behind Microsoft Office had put there skills to good, no doubt we would have a base on the moon. And the people behine Oracle database had diverted their efforts to Space Travel, we would have FTL speed. And if all those Linux geeks had just studies up on some Medicine, we would have a cure for AIDS and the common cold.
You are part of the problem then. The fact that people like you keep working in bad condition, means that bad conditions will continue. If you all left, then things would improve.
There are plenty of great positions for people who do actually work. The only people I have met who put up with bad positions, are the ones who are lazy and don't actually do much work, or the ones who are lucky to be working in IT at all.
This is because you don't really understand it. This is huge, when you start to think about it. It is an agreed upon form of describing data, rather than just blindly putting it up on the web as a blog or whatever. Go read up on it.
In cases like this, where it not clearly discernable what sex the person is, I choose to look at their environment, and what they are doing to give a hint. Yup, definately a man.

I remember going from Windows 98 to Windows NT and 2000, suddenly you had to start preserving an extra register (I think it was bx/ebx), that you hadn't had to do before. This caused a lot of problems, Microsoft for some reason decided to change the pay all programs worked. I can only imagine what sort of hell one would have going to Vista (XP wasn't so bad, since it was just an ugly version of 2000).
Of course it is evidence. It is especially good, because he described how he got that evidence, unlike most articles who will be quite happy to just start using their twisted statistics. Assuming the results are true for the whole industry would be a bit silly, but it is a good indicator, and the guy makes a good point.
Your data point proves that PCs can last for 8 years if you update the parts every now and again. So you can make your own dramatic conclusions about the subset of PC users, who keep the same case. His data is better, because it is more than one person, but no, it is not perfect.
This sort of thing has been going on for many years. A lot of people to place more trust in an organisation who will admit their errors, but the majority perfer to live blind. That is, they will trust a company that doesn't admit any error, in the blind faith belief that they must have never committed any errors. To think overwise is to admit that companies are human (or at least made of humans), and most people would prefer to not admit that. So it can backfire.
Also, as a pessimist, you end up with companies admitting some small errors, but not the major ones.
Yeah, I agree with you. Well, I did, until I read the article. Sure, he is knick-pitting, but the new logo is quite distintively different, in that it is very ugly, compared to the original simple logo.
Don't forget that google pays Dell to install its applications on all the machines they sell, so that Google search is set as default. Google is not above paying for customers too, this has what it has come down to.

Maybe you misunderstand the concept of dream
Wow, that is going to piss of about a dozen people, way to go Steve.

These, were the examiners. I wonder what it takes to be an examiner, surely you must have a little knowledge in that particular area?
Do they get a bonus at the end of the week, for the number of patents they have past.
