search logs could be utilized as a kind of "database of intentions"
Thats the problem. Without context the searches would be meaningless. For example I post on other forums. One of those is political related (which is basically a pissing ground for who can one up the other on information on the net.. bit like/.;)
One of the rules of that forum is that you have to back everything up with a source. This means scouring the net numerous times with very colourful search terms. I have no doubt that a number of them would red flag if marked together. However would be benign if you knew the context of those searches.
Although with the right list of IP addresses they could corralate some nice information from the search results. I am surprised the US Administration don't just tap googles lines and monitor the results that way.
Go to www.comedycentral.com and then go to the videos section. They show the full daily show (broken into chunks). You can also watch the colbert report there.
If you are new to the game then about the first two weeks you can probably claim this. You can set your craft on auto-pilot and come back later to continue playing. But after you have a fair bit of skills under your belt and a good craft this isn't this case unless you sit in core space for all that time.
Once you get into a serious corporation and PvP in general being AFK means you are most likely dead when you come back to your machine.
I take it from your comments that you either never really got into the game. Having a 300-400 ship battle is something to be seen.
"Hit the go button and a couple hours later you'll arrive. Sure if you are going through low security space you may run into problems, but overall its rare to run into other people."
When exactly did you last play the game? The only time I can find systems with no people in them are border systems in 0.0 space. Even playing at 2-3am in the morning there are people around.
They have one sever that has an average of 18,000 people on it peaking at 22,000. Lowest I have seen while playing is 9,000 people
As for couple of hours, you only play as a newbie? I can cross the whole galaxy in less then half an hour (barring no one attacking me). Get more skills and a faster ship.
I'm an addict to their forums. Never once saw a call to ballot stuff. TBH this is the first time I even heard of the poll.
Personal opinion the only award they shouldn't of got was best Graphics. Sure the graphics are great in Eve but they get repetitive. City of Heroes on the other hand the graphics are the best I've seen (bar AC2, but that game sucked).
The reason I like eve is because a lot of the MMORPG are watered down when it comes to player interaction. You can quite easily be stabbed in the back and left as a floating corpse and your corportation raided in Eve if you don't pay attention to people and what is going on. In other MMORPG where I have seen something similar happen the guild/clan/whatever normally whine to a GM to ban the person who showed up how stupid they are.
The only other MMORPG I've played that has come close is Neocron.
>Boycotting Chinese imports would send a stronger message than hurting American exports.
Boycott what though? 90% of the worlds toys are made in China. Nearly every electronic device in the world has had a piece of it made in China or has been made mostly in China.
A large majority of clothes are made in China, even the so called "American" brands.
A large majority of US foodstuffs are imported from China. Read up on Walmart for example and their famous Gallon Pickle story.
Even software is outsourced to China directly or via India.
I think if you were to start boycotting you would probably have a hard time finding something that isn't Chinese made.
>I have ran into many chinese gold farmers who say "i no farm, i jsut chinese, l
What is funny with this is that a lot of EU/US players do this to remove blame.
For example in Eve I would routinely spam Chinese/Japanese/Korean if I get a random conversation with someone (eg. I'm about to kill/rob them or they are to me). It keeps them confused enough.
For example there is a strong belief that Chinese miners in Eve are all macro'ers/famers. So I get a mining craft, drop a can in a asteroid field and wait. Sure enough someone shows up and messages me. I spam them in Chinese and get "F'ing macroer!" they then loot my can, while they swapping the can (thinking they can trick me into attacking) my friends warp into my location and blow them up and loot them. Works almost every time.
What I have also noticed is that a lot of EU/US players can't tell the difference between Korean/Japanese/Chinese writing.
Btw, did you know that the nationality of the biggest gold farmer in MMORPGs is American. He outsources the game work to chinese as they are cheap.
"Well, in the article, they mentioned using data mining to find when the word "jihad" was used in a conversation."
This erks me that they spy based on words. The better way would be to find the suspects and spy from there. Based off a word means nothing. It assumes that your targets are stupid. They aren't.
As for the online game comment. There is more then enough smacktalk going around online games to keep them tied up for years.
Funnily enough I have a real world example. I play CS:S monthly with friends. We rent out a small building (kind of scout den). Last summer it was pretty hot so we had all the windows and doors open. When we went to get food later on some of the guys noticed a special branch car outside (Like the FBI) but didn't think anything of it. About an hour or so later a plain clothes cop wanders in with a gun on his hip which you rarely or ever see in Ireland and says "Whats up lads?". After about 5-10 mins there he realises we are just playing games. Turns out the neighbours could hear shouts of "Plant the Bomb", "Kill the hostages", etc and thought we were up to no good and had called them earlier in the day.
You can buy software over the counter that will rip a DVD for you to your memory stick (not to mention free download). Or at least you can buy it in Ireland.
Oh and the latest OS for the PSP now has RSS feeds. This means it will read podcasts (will stream video + audio). It also supports LocationFree so you can stream via your own hardware to the device. Comes within Wifi built in, you don't have to buy it as a seperate game/kit. Local store rents UMDs. Battery life is excellent and the graphics are fantastic.
Even has a browser (although still needs work imho). They modified the text entry system so its faster although the DS wins wins out with the chicken pecking keyboard.
I have a DS and a PSP. The DS is sitting in a cupboard. It has some novelty but it feels and plays like a second rate system in comparison to the PSP. The PSP has way too many features to keep me interested.
I can just see the RIAA taking the logs from that site and saying to a judge "Look! See how many people accessed this site, that is how many are stealing from us!".
>It's about sending lies and propaganda to the uneducated users.
Agreed and this tactic is hardly new. I remember back when I saw a popup one of them used to say "WARNING YOUR MACHINE MAY BE BROADCASTING YOUR IP ADDRESS!" or something like that.
In the UK on one of the CCTV cop TV shows they have there was a good instance of dealing with cameras.
Basically the owner of a house had complained that every night the camera was pointed at his house. One instance he had even seen a mugging take place outside (in London) and the camera was busy looking at the mugging but no cops showed up for some time.
So one night he dressed up like what can only be described as a cross between a demon/predator (really cool looking). And he wandered around where the camera was pointing.
Within 5 minutes the whole road was cordened off by numerous cops.
> The reason as to why they branched out
> into the greek alphabet is beyond me though.
I am sure those who had children with the names of hurricanes aren't too happy about it.
It was the level of bugs and unfinished feeling to neocron that eventually made me quit. Well upping the price of the game and still expecting people to live with the same bugs was the push.
If NC was a more polished, less bug ridden game I would be back to it in a heartbeat. It is the only thing it has going against it.
UMD isn't slow. DS is fast because it uses less memory and not as good graphics/sound. Thats all.
PSP comes internet ready out of the box, it can hook up to a PC out of the box, you can play movies, podcast, surf the web.
DS sells well because it is cheap and its easy to get (PSP is getting easier now though).
Thats the problem. Without context the searches would be meaningless. For example I post on other forums. One of those is political related (which is basically a pissing ground for who can one up the other on information on the net.. bit like

I watch it there daily.
You pay for basic cable no?
Although your actions is why a lot of TV shows now have blatant product placement within them and some are just adverts in disguise.
> I won't till they get the Daily Show on iTunes.
You can get the daily show for free on Comedy Central already?
Which isn't true either.
If you are new to the game then about the first two weeks you can probably claim this. You can set your craft on auto-pilot and come back later to continue playing. > In my experience? City of Heroes. There's no rat-killing,
Yea but all the baddies are more or less the same until you hit level 20. No rats but plently of Trolls, Skulls, Clockworks.

I hope the moderators have the common sense not to dupe it. :/
There was a story on /. recently so the influx was probably from that. I know I installed to have a look at it and the game sucks.
Says he "tried to crash the server" while in prison. Yea, he is exactly the type of player you want back in the game.
You mean all the French police are in Iraq? Ba-dum-tish! I'll get my coat.

Fenrir. Seems to toot his horn a lot.
Just a 10' pole to find traps. I always wondered how people carried those in the tabletop game (especially the halflings).

Actually the site you listed for the PSP has 67 games available.
l endar§ion=psp
Also you are wrong on upcoming games.
PSP
October = 3
November = 22
December = 9
http://www.us.playstation.com/newgames.aspx?id=ca
Also factor in how many movies are available for the PSP vs DS? How many games can you play Online on the PSP vs the DS?
Good games is questionable. Personally I hate sims with a passion, but it sells well.
It was the level of bugs and unfinished feeling to neocron that eventually made me quit. Well upping the price of the game and still expecting people to live with the same bugs was the push.
